As a member of the
IT Management Team , you are responsible for managing, developing, and leading a team. Your role includes overseeing the specific functional responsibilities of your team, ensuring performance and deliverables, and guiding the team’s strategic vision to align with enterprise objectives. The SOX Controllership team supports a sustainable global compliance program related to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and Costco’s security practices. The IT SOX Controllership Manager leads a team that identifies control needs, ensures sustainable controls before go-live, maintains ongoing control effectiveness, coordinates with internal and external auditors, and guides remediation with control owners. The manager also moves the program toward a continuous, integrated, proactive approach to compliance and risk management. As the primary conduit between employees and upper leadership, you will model Costco’s values and principles, fostering a culture of engagement, trust, and open communication. ADMINISTRATION: Ensure proper department coverage, understand the department budget, and explain variances. MANAGING PERFORMANCE: Coach and mentor; conduct regular performance and career development discussions; identify learning opportunities. COMMUNICATION: Share information through meetings and one-on-one conversations; navigate difficult conversations; maintain business knowledge in interactions with leadership. SELF-MANAGEMENT: Exercise good judgment and maintain composure in challenging situations. INCLUSION: Encourage diverse approaches, solicit input, and engage potential candidates. COMPLIANCE AND SAFETY: Protect confidential information and adhere to security policies. SOX PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES: Own and maintain the global IT SOX compliance program; support project engagement, control design and implementation, scoping, evidence delivery, findings management, auditor management; provide consulting to embed controls by default; maintain collaboration with Internal Audit; report status and metrics to leadership. BUILD AND MAINTAIN RELATIONSHIPS: Work with business to understand objectives and compliance risks; serve as a trusted advisor on SOX compliance across projects and teams. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: Promote standardization and collaboration globally; support budgeting and annual planning; lead team development through training and mentoring. OTHER: This is a full-time management/leadership position (45+ hours per week). Required
5+ years’ IT SOX experience with global program execution and oversight; preference for external audit experience (including PCAOB inspections). At least two years’ experience leading global Information Security, SOX, Privacy or Compliance teams in professional services, management, or supervisory roles. Strong understanding of Information Security and GRC frameworks, methodologies, and practices. Experience with automation of manual controls or automated IT processes within a SOX context. Technical security and architecture knowledge; ability to articulate issues to technical and non-technical audiences. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills; ability to convey complex topics to diverse audiences and build consensus. High integrity and ability to handle confidential matters with sound judgment. Self-motivated, responsible, detail-oriented, and able to work under pressure. HIPAA Training and Supervisors Orientation within 30 days of hire; Leadership Development within one year; Costco Pay Policies within 90 days of promotion. Recommended
CPA, CISSP, CISM, CISA or equivalent experience. Proficiency with Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Gmail). Required Documents
