Job Description Summary The Labor Relations Associate is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective work relationships among union representatives, the BMS workforce, and people leaders, with consideration of the bilateral nature of labor relations. Activities include preventive policies and programs to foster positive, collaborative, and sustainable work environments; contract administration and interpretation; negotiating the collective bargaining agreement; and advising management on the implementation and application of the negotiated agreement.
Job Responsibilities
Serve as the Company’s negotiator in contract negotiations with the union. Maintain current knowledge of employee and labor relations trends, legal decisions, and changes; conduct research to support negotiations and employee relations (or work with BMS counsel).
Use appropriate negotiation strategies to develop bargaining goals and negotiate contracts consistent with BMS’ mission, values, and objectives.
Act as BMS’s main point of contact with the Union in the US, and supervise the Chief Steward as its formal people leader within BMS.
Provide interpretation of labor contracts to managers, employees, and HR staff; oversee processes for review and resolution of employee grievances.
Advise managers and employees on sensitive labor and employee relations matters, including grievance and arbitration procedures, performance issues, and disciplinary actions; help identify issues and determine appropriate actions.
Provide guidance to management on contract interpretation, investigations, and advice across a full range of employee relations matters, including grievances, performance management plans, and disciplinary issues.
Facilitate ongoing communication and working relationships with union representatives.
Be a member of the Employee Relations team to identify trends, recommend solutions, and partner with HR management at all levels to execute with a neutral stance on policies and procedures.
Conduct investigations, research policies/practices, gather documentation, make recommendations, and implement resolutions when applicable.
May represent the Company in arbitrations and National Labor Relations Board hearings related to unfair labor practice complaints.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
May be required to work some off-shift hours to support investigations at sites with multi-shift environments.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
5+ years of progressively responsible, professional experience in collective bargaining, labor relations, and employee relations activities.
Strong interpersonal skills across all management levels; excellent verbal and written communication.
Proven ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and good judgment.
Experience leading contract administration, grievance processing, performance management, disciplinary activities, investigations, and maintaining relations with employee representatives and stakeholders.

Compensation Overview Princeton, NJ, US: $112,880 - $136,784. The starting compensation range listed is for a full-time employee (FTE). Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available, based on eligibility. Final compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
