Overview Nursing: Contract Instructor-College Credit position at San Diego Community College District. Location: San Diego City College. Position Type: Academic. Closing Date: 9/25/2025. Position Number: 001430. This is an 10-month, non-tenure track instructional position in the School of Math, Science, Nursing. The district may assign the incumbent to any District facility at the option of the Chancellor.

Major Responsibilities Under direction, plan, organize, and teach assigned courses in an instructional field and clinical setting based on the discipline according to approved course outlines, education code requirements, and faculty contract provisions; provide student feedback and guidance; evaluate students’ performance; and perform assigned duties. Must meet the California Board of Registered Nursing Regulations.

Minimum Qualifications Master's in nursing OR Bachelor’s in nursing AND Master’s in health education or health science OR the equivalent OR the minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher.

Desired Qualifications As specified in California Code of Regulations (CCRs) Section 1425(2), direct patient care experience within the previous five years in the nursing area to which the person is assigned, which can be met by: (A) One year’s continuous, full-time or equivalent direct patient care experience as a Registered Nurse in the designated nursing area; or (B) one academic year of RN-level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent.

Additional Requirements and Competencies

The applicant must sign in to the California Breeze Account and apply for approval to teach in the nursing program by the California Board of Registered Nursing to become a nursing faculty member.

The position is contingent upon approval by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Clinically competent: the faculty member must possess the degree of learning, skill, care, and experience ordinarily possessed by staff-level registered nurses in the nursing area to which the faculty member is assigned.

Immunization, background check, CPR, and malpractice insurance requirements must be current per American Databank/Complio and Clinical Facilities.

Demonstrate competency in nursing courses, such as Medical Surgical Nursing and Maternal Child Nursing (Obstetrics).

After hire, create a San Diego City College Nursing and Allied Health Consortium Education Account through AmericanData Bank/Complio (clinical partners’ requirements).

Master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university that includes coursework in nursing, education, or administration.

At least one year of RN direct patient care experience or equivalent as determined by the Board of Registered Nursing; equivalency options available via the Equivalency Form process.

Foreign degree considerations: coursework evaluation through a NACES member or ACEI, with evaluation submitted online.

Current California RN license, CPR certificate, and malpractice insurance certificate.

Pay and Benefits Pay Information: Class 1, Step C – Class 6, Step C ($6,933.44 – $8,849.03) per month, based on the current AFT-College Faculty Tenured-Tenure Track Faculty Salary Schedule. Initial salary placement is commensurate with education and teaching experience and is non-negotiable. Benefits include employer-paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and professional development opportunities. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles one-way may be paid per SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy.
