The Commonwealth's Attorney's Office is seeking an attorney for the County. This position is

part time.

Work is performed under applicable local, state and Federal laws. This candidate serves as the County's chief law enforcement officer.Supervises and personally participates in the investigation an preparation of cases and the prosecution of criminal charges against accused individuals, including preparation for cross examination of witnesses, preparation of opening statements and preparation of jury instructions and arguments of the case.Researches state criminal laws; interprets and renders opinions and advises local new enforcement officials on proper procedures and actions to be taken.Interprets and enforces applicable state laws in the jurisdiction.Prepares motions involving setting and continuing cases, orders, status charges, bonds, evidence requests and similar papers.Addresses public groups and the media on legal issues and proceedings.Prepares special reports, briefs and opinions as requested and is also responsible for preparing the office budget and supervises staff. Planning, supervising and directing the staff and activities for the Commonwealth's Attorney's office; overseeing the preparation and maintenance of legal records and files. Responds to citizen and law enforcement inquiries for information. Successful candidates must possess a JD from an accredited law school, a license to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia and be in good standing with the Virginia State Bar. Health insurance is included, however retirement benefits are not applicable for this position.
