Overview

WHO We Are:

Self-Help started in 1980 with a focus on economic inequality especially in communities that have faced systemic barriers in building wealth. At the core of what Self-Help does is a drive to create and protect ownership and economic opportunity. In other words, we’re committed to economic justice! Economic Justice means that all communities have the basic infrastructure they need to thrive, from high quality schools to grocery stores selling fresh foods resources that support opportunity at a neighborhood level regardless of demographics, income, or wealth. Since our founding, we’ve constantly sought to find new ways to pursue greater economic justice: from providing fair and affordable loans, to working with partners to demand that lawmakers change unjust policies. We are seeking a Director of Residential Property and Asset Management! Reporting to the Director of Real Estate, and in close coordination with the Executive Staff team member who leads the Self-Help Affordable Rental Preservation (SHARP) program, the Director of Residential Property & Asset Management guides all aspects of asset and property management—including operational, financial, and administrative duties—for Self-Help’s residential portfolio, which currently includes just over 1,000 units across 12 properties in North Carolina and California. This role is responsible for leading the planning, execution, and financial oversight for routine property management and maintenance as well as capital improvement needs across Self-Help’s residential portfolio. They work in partnership with the Real Estate Team and SHARP Executive Staff, and also with the 3rd party property and asset managers who manage our properties day-to-day. Where relevant, the position coordinates with asset managers who work for our nonprofit partners in cases where we developed/operate properties as part of joint ventures.
