SENIOR FOOD SCIENTIST-PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Purpose and Scope/General Summary:

We are looking for a Sr. Food Scientist to join our Pilgrim’s R&D team here in Greeley, CO! As a Senior Food Scientist, you will be responsible for developing new products and improving existing ones. You will be the technical expert engaging with customers and cross-functional teams related to product development. You will work closely with Operations, Operational Excellence (OE), Research and Optimization (R&O), Quality Assurance (QA), Category Marketing, Culinary, Innovation, Regulatory, Procurement, and Sales to drive the execution of the Fresh and Prepared Poultry strategies by developing, optimizing, and commercializing products. This role focuses on product development supporting branded products. Responsibilities: Execute the development of new products and improvements to meet customer, brand, and operational requirements regarding cost, quality, and yield. Lead and perform pilot product development and renovation up to commercialization, analyzing results and recommending full-scale implementation. Engage with vendors for benchtop, pilot, and commercial scale requests, troubleshooting formulation functionality and shelf-life issues. Lead vendors in new platform development, product improvement, and line extensions via technical briefs and discussions. Participate in product development conversations through sampling, technical communication, and presentations as a technical expert to customers. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address quality or yield issues of products and processes. Communicate technical activities like design of experiments, costing, and data analysis clearly to teams. Work with Operations, OE, R&O, Category Marketing, and QA on product development and renovation for quality and yield improvements. Influence Marketing, Innovation, Sales, Culinary, Operations, QA, Regulatory, and Procurement teams following the stage-gate process. Collaborate with sensory and R&O teams to validate sensory outcomes and shelf-life requirements. Prepare technical data collection plans and reports independently. Mentor and onboard Food Technologists and Associate Food Technologists. Travel up to 50% of the time as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Meat Science, Poultry Science, Engineering, or related field (strongly preferred). BS with 5-7 years or MS with 3-5 years of relevant experience. Experience in food manufacturing, operations, or continuous improvement preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Proficiency in Project Management Systems and Recipe Development tools (e.g., SAP). Knowledge of USDA and/or FDA guidelines. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and communication tools like TEAMS or Webex. Ability to perform job functions with or without accommodation. Willingness to travel as required by business needs. Compensation and Benefits: Benefits include Vision, Medical, Dental after 60 days. Paid Time Off: sick leave, vacation, holidays. 401(k) with company match after one year. Base salary: $80,000-$100,000. Eligible for annual bonus, terms vary. This position is open until filled. We conduct drug, alcohol, and background checks.
