Overview Oversee the normal academic progress from matriculation to graduation of varsity student-athletes, including those from high-profile sports. Facilitate the overall adjustment and development of student-athletes through mentoring and academic skills training.

Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct academic team meetings at the start of each semester. Facilitate ongoing, individual meetings with student-athletes. Assist student-athletes in developing effective study habits, skills, and strategies for long-term success. (55%)

Follow up with student-athletes, faculty, coaches, and fellow administrators in response to academic issues and concerns. Make referrals to, and collaborate with, office colleagues, faculty, faculty advisors, and other administrative personnel to enhance student-athlete support. (25%)

Assist in preparing travel notifications, grade reports, and academic award nominations. Assist in monitoring transfer student-athlete academic progress to ensure compliance with College and NCAA guidelines. (10%)

Assist in recruiting academically qualified student-athletes to the College. Support programs that aim to promote overall success, welfare, and inclusion of student-athletes. Travel with designated athletic teams when necessary and appropriate. Maintain accurate records in compliance with College, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. (10%)

MARGINAL DUTIES

Perform all other duties as may be required.

Education and Experience

Master's Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in a field of study (i.e., education, counseling, college student personnel, higher education) that enhances the person's ability to assist students in developing a personalized program for academic development.

Three years' experience in the post-secondary environment, working directly with student-athletes, or equivalent combination of training and experience with one year directly related to academic mentoring, advising, or counseling.

Strong developmental orientation in working with students and knowledge of college student development theory/research, especially as it pertains to student-athletes from diverse backgrounds.

Demonstrated ability to motivate student-athletes to take ownership of their academic and personal development.

Excellent oral and written communication skills in order to build positive relationships.

Knowledge of NCAA rules/regulations as they relate to academic progress and eligibility.

Experience planning and facilitating group/team meetings and workshops or classroom teaching experience strongly preferred.
