About being our Surface Water Engineer
Psomas is seeking a mid-level Engineer specializing in stormwater management and green infrastructure to join our Seattle-based team. Our engineering team supports a wide range of stormwater management and green infrastructure projects, including urban drainage design for roadway corridors, water quality treatment systems, Low Impact Development (LID) retrofits, flood mitigation, fish passage, trail design, and permit compliance planning. Our ideal candidate will bring their experience along with a collaborative spirit to hit the ground running on both current and upcoming projects.
Our Pacific Northwest Group is recognized for delivering innovative stormwater solutions to municipal, transportation, and public works clients across the region. We offer an exciting opportunity to lead innovative stormwater projects as well as contribute to larger integrated project assignments. As an integrated design firm, we offer a unique opportunity for our engineers to work in partnership with our interdisciplinary staff on a variety of projects.
Responsibilities
Provide stormwater modeling and analysis efforts to ensure regulatory compliance with the Department of Ecology Stormwater Management Manual, King County Surface Water Design Manual, and NPDES Phase I/II permit requirements
Serve as engineering lead or project manager for stormwater on in-house integrated design projects and municipal stormwater projects
Mentor junior civil and water resources engineers while overseeing design deliverables related to drainage, erosion control, and stormwater infrastructure
Contribute to the preparation of PS&E (Plans, Specifications & Estimates), storm drainage reports, and technical design documentation for permit submittals
Perform QA/QC of work by others to ensure completeness (technical and constructability review) and accuracy of department deliverables
Participation in business development efforts, preparation of proposals, participation in selection process
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
Washington State Professional Engineer (PE) license
7+ years of progressively responsible professional experience, with a focus on stormwater
3+ years of recent experience in Western Washington
Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
Preferred Qualifications
Proven experience managing design on stormwater projects and mentoring junior staff
Strong understanding of stormwater regulations and surface water manuals (e.g., Ecology Western/Eastern Manuals, local agency standards)
Experience in hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling, including HEC-RAS, backwater analysis, MGSFlood, WWHM, and similar tools
Demonstrated ability to conduct expedited reviews of technical reports, SWPPPs, and drainage plans for land development projects
Experience with scour analysis and designing effective countermeasures

A competitive salary! The genuinely expected range for this position is $110,000 - $140,000/year depending on experience. Compensation may be adjusted for well qualified candidates
