NAIOP SoCal
NAIOP SoCal, the leading voice for the commercial real estate industry in Southern California, is seeking one or more highly motivated consultants to join the team. NAIOP SoCal represents the interests of the commercial real estate industry in both Los Angeles and Orange Counties. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team representing one of the most important industries in California.
Reporting to the CEO and working closely with staff and members, the consultant(s) will provide government relations support in Los Angeles County, as well as advocacy support related to members of the State Legislative delegation representing both Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
NAIOP SoCal is open to different models of engagement:
A single consultant or consulting firm covering all areas of responsibility;
Two consultants/consulting firms, one focused on Southern California (primarily Los Angeles County) and one focused on Sacramento/state-level advocacy.
Note: The consultant handling Southern California responsibilities must be based in Los Angeles County.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The consultant(s) will:
Assist in the development and implementation of NAIOP SoCal’s legislative affairs priorities
Advance NAIOP SoCal’s policy agenda through regular contact with elected officials and staff at the local, regional, state, and congressional levels
Track, monitor, and report on issues important to NAIOP SoCal at the municipal, county, regional, and state levels
Support the CEO and Government Relations Manager in developing and executing lobbying and external communications strategies
Identify opportunities for NAIOP SoCal to expand its role as a policy leader on issues critical to commercial real estate
Draft letters, policy statements, testimony, memoranda, educational materials, talking points, presentations, and other advocacy materials
Coordinate opportunities for NAIOP SoCal members to present testimony at public forums (in-person, virtual, or written)
Facilitate meetings with mayors, city council members, county supervisors, state legislators, members of Congress, and agency staff
Manage relationships with allied organizations, including industry associations, business groups, and labor organizations
Support Political Action Committees (PACs), including fundraising, candidate endorsement processes, and working with the PACs’ Treasurer
Assist in developing PAC meeting agendas
Attend events, as necessary, to advance NAIOP SoCal’s policy and relationship-building goals
Maintain and update government affairs information on NAIOP SoCal’s website and social media channels
Perform other advocacy or government affairs duties as assigned by the CEO
Essential Qualifications
Minimum ten years of professional experience with elected officials or in a relevant government relations role for an association or private sector entity
Strong political contacts in Los Angeles County and Sacramento
Outstanding written and oral communication skills, with the ability to persuade and influence effectively
Proven record of sound political judgment
Deep understanding of local and state legislative processes
Knowledge of PAC operations and compliance
Tech-savvy with strong digital communication skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Professional, team-oriented approach with a focus on organizational results
Additional Skills and Abilities
Proficiency with cloud-based file systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, CRM systems, and social media platforms
Comfort working in a paperless environment
Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion
Strong presentation and public speaking skills
