Morris Heights Health Center (MHHC) has stood as a trusted lifeline for the Bronx & Brooklyn, one of the most underserved communities in the nation. Founded in 1981, MHHC has grown into a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and a nationally recognized model of community-based care, with a mission to be the vanguard for quality, affordable, and accessible health care for all. Position Summary: Chief Medical Officer The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Morris Heights Health Center is a mission-driven physician leader who will provide the strategic vision and clinical leadership for all medical services across MHHC’s 30 health centers. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, thoughtful, and experienced leader, someone who is first and foremost driven by the mission to improve lives in historically underserved communities. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
- Provide vision and clinical direction for all medical services across MHHC’s health centers. Team Oversight
- Lead a team and foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and respect across the medical staff. Culture & Engagement
- Promote and foster a culture of engagement and teamwork across all specialties, support, and administrative services. Clinical Excellence
- Advance evidence-based practices, protocols, and standards that ensure high-quality, safe, and patient-centered outcomes. Compliance & Readiness
- Lead regulatory compliance and accreditation efforts. Workflow & Productivity
- Strengthen provider productivity and optimize workflows, processes, and clinical operations. Quality & Safety
- Champion continuous quality improvement, patient safety, and population health initiatives. Technology Integration
- Ensure effective and innovative use of technology, including EMR systems and other platforms. Workforce Development
- Oversee provider recruitment, credentialing, retention, teaching, and succession planning. Research & Innovation
- Provide leadership for research initiatives and ethical oversight, while fostering innovation and the development of new care models. Fiscal Stewardship
- Partner with the CFO and COO to manage departmental budgets, resources, and financial sustainability of medical services. Board & Community Representation
- Report regularly to the Board of Directors in partnership with the CEO, and serve as a visible spokesperson and trusted representative of MHHC. Qualifications Medical and Educational Credentials : MD or DO from an accredited institution with completion of accredited residency and board certification in a primary care or relevant specialty. Clinical Experience : Minimum of 10 years of progressive clinical practice, with at least 5 years in senior medical leadership. Leadership & Strategic Management : Proven success leading diverse clinical teams, setting strategic direction, and aligning medical services with organizational goals. Quality & Patient Safety : Demonstrated track record in advancing evidence-based clinical practices, quality improvement, peer review systems, and compliance with regulatory standards. Workforce Development : Experience recruiting, credentialing, and retaining a diverse provider workforce, coupled with commitment to mentorship, teaching, training programs, and succession planning. Population Health & Value-Based Care : Familiarity with government-sponsored programs, value-based care models, population health management, and the use of data-driven strategies to improve outcomes and equity. Operational & Financial Acumen : Ability to prepare and manage departmental budgets, optimize provider productivity, oversee resource allocation, and balance operational efficiency with clinical excellence. Innovation & Research : Commitment to advancing health equity through innovation, research, and integration of new care models, with experience overseeing research ethics and program development. Technology Savviness : Skilled in leveraging EMRs and other technology platforms to improve compliance, reporting, efficiency, and patient care delivery. Collaboration & Communication : Exceptional ability to build trust and work across levels- from board members to front-line staff- with authenticity, cultural competence, and respect.
