AI ENGINEER SENIOR

As an AI Engineer Senior, the work you'll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of GSA. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior AI Application Engineer with a proven track record in designing and implementing production-grade AI applications, with a strong emphasis on Generative AI solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience building and deploying LLM-powered applications using Databricks GenAI capabilities, modern AI frameworks, and AWS AI services. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to architect, design, and deploy innovative GenAI applications that drive business value and transform user experiences. Additionally, you will play a key role in mentoring team members and establishing best practices for responsible AI application development.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Bring your expertise and drive for innovation to GDIT. The AI Engineer Senior must have:

? Education: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science

? Experience: 5+ years of related experience

? Required Technical skills:

5+ years of proven experience as an AI/ML Engineer or Software Engineer with focus on AI applications

2+ years of hands-on experience building production applications with Generative AI and Large Language Models (Gemini, Claude, Llama, etc.)

2+ years of demonstrable experience with Databricks platform, specifically Databricks GenAI capabilities (Mosaic AI, Model Serving, Vector Search)

5+ years of strong proficiency in Python programming with experience in AI application frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel)

3+ years of experience with AWS AI services, particularly Bedrock, and integration with cloud-based AI solutions

Proven experience implementing RAG architectures, vector databases, and semantic search capabilities

Strong understanding of prompt engineering, few-shot learning, and LLM optimization techniques

Knowledge of responsible AI practices, bias mitigation, and AI safety considerations

Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to architect complex AI application solutions

Strong communication skills to explain AI capabilities and limitations to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Experience working in Agile environments with cross-functional teams

Desired Skills:

Experience with multiple LLM providers and model orchestration platforms

Familiarity with fine-tuning techniques for LLMs including PEFT, LoRA, and instruction tuning

Knowledge of vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma) and embedding models

Experience with conversational AI, chatbot frameworks, and dialogue management

Experience with API development (REST, GraphQL) and building scalable application backends

Proficiency with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) for AI application deployment

Understanding of AI evaluation frameworks and metrics (BLEU, ROUGE, human evaluation)

Experience with streaming responses, token management, and cost optimization strategies

Familiarity with Unity Catalog for AI asset governance and lineage tracking

Knowledge of computer vision or multimodal AI applications

Experience with frontend frameworks (React, Vue.js) for building AI-powered user interfaces

Contributions to open-source AI projects or published research in AI/ML

The likely salary range for this position is $140,250 - $189,750. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
