POSITION SUMMARY

Modern Government Solutions (MGS) is seeking a Platform Engineer to design, secure, and optimize mission-critical infrastructure supporting large-scale, containerized workloads. In this role, you will manage Kubernetes clusters across multiple platforms (EKS, AKS, GKE, OpenShift, or self-managed), build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, and implement Infrastructure as Code to deliver scalable, resilient, and secure solutions. The Platform Engineer will collaborate with engineering, operations, and security teams, automate workflows with scripting languages, and ensure reliability through monitoring, logging, and proactive issue resolution.

RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):

Design, deploy, secure, and maintain highly available Kubernetes clusters (EKS, AKS, GKE, OpenShift, or self-managed).

Build and manage containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes (Pods, Deployments, Services, ConfigMaps, Secrets, etc.).

Configure and optimize cluster networking, security, and performance (CNI, service mesh, RBAC, vulnerability scanning).

Develop and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines and apply GitOps methodologies for continuous delivery.

Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions with Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, Helm, and Kustomize.

Automate operational tasks and custom tooling with scripting languages (Python, Go, Bash).

Deploy and manage monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, Datadog, Splunk).

Provide Linux/Unix administration and support core networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, load balancing).

Collaborate across engineering, operations, and security teams to ensure reliable, scalable infrastructure.

Take proactive ownership of platform reliability, security, and continuous improvement.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph.

Current IAM Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CAP, CASP) per DoD 8570 IAT requirements.

5+ years designing, deploying, securing, and optimizing Kubernetes clusters (EKS, AKS, GKE, OpenShift, or self-managed), including containerization (Docker, Kubernetes primitives), networking (CNI, service mesh, DNS), and security (RBAC, admission controls, vulnerability scanning, secret management).

5+ years troubleshooting performance, scalability, and reliability issues in distributed or containerized systems; strong Linux/Unix administration and knowledge of core networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, load balancing).

3+ years building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub Actions, Tekton, Argo) with GitOps methodologies (Argo CD) for automated deployments.

3+ years developing Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation) and packaging applications with Helm and Kustomize.

3+ years of automation scripting (Python, Go, Bash) and implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, Datadog, Splunk).

3+ years working with Git, collaborative development workflows, and applying testing best practices (unit, integration, end-to-end).

Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% for on-site installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Relevant certifications (e.g., CKA, CKAD, CKS, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert).

Experience with logging and tracing frameworks for debugging and performance analysis.

Strong background in DevOps culture and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles.

Experience with Kubernetes operators, CRDs, or building internal developer platforms (IDPs).

Background in Datacenter as a Service (DCaaS) solution design and implementation.

Experience leading or supporting Authority to Operate (ATO) efforts and maintaining security compliance.
