POSITION SUMMARY
Modern Government Solutions (MGS) is seeking a Platform Security Engineer to secure and maintain compliance for mission-critical infrastructure supporting next-generation Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads. In this role, you will automate security practices, perform vulnerability assessments, and ensure compliance with government and industry standards such as NIST SP 800-53, RMF, and ATO requirements. The Platform Security Engineer will collaborate with engineering teams, vendors, and customers to implement secure, scalable solutions while monitoring, detecting, and remediating vulnerabilities across networks, operating systems, and container platforms like OpenShift. This position requires hands-on expertise in automation (Python, Go, REST APIs, Ansible), strong troubleshooting skills in Linux and networking, and the ability to innovate new security solutions that drive compliance and platform reliability.
RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):
Perform security assessments of network, platform, and application components to identify and mitigate risks.
Automate security and compliance processes using Python, Go, RESTful APIs, and Ansible.
Ensure compliance with government/industry standards (e.g., NIST SP 800-53, ATO, RMF) and maintain required documentation.
Troubleshoot routing, interconnectivity, Linux systems, and next-gen networking tools to resolve security or performance issues.
Apply and enforce security best practices across infrastructure to maintain baseline compliance.
Monitor and remediate vulnerabilities using tools such as Nessus, Security Center, and Splunk.
Collaborate with engineering teams, vendors, and customers to implement secure, compliant solutions.
Innovate new security solutions that improve platform reliability and accelerate compliance milestones.
Support deployment and sustainment of new designs, ensuring security and compliance requirements are met.
Travel up to 20% for on-site installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph.
Current IAM Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CAP, CASP) per DoD 8570 IAT requirements.
5+ years conducting security assessments and ensuring compliance with standards such as ATO, NIST SP 800-53, and RMF.
3+ years automating security processes using Python, Go, RESTful APIs, and Ansible.
3+ years using vulnerability and monitoring tools (Nessus, Security Center, Splunk) and troubleshooting Linux systems and network performance issues.
Strong understanding of network architectures (VLAN, LAN, WAN) and ability to produce security/compliance documentation.
Proven communication and time management skills in fast-paced environments.
Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% for on-site support.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CISA, CKS, AWS Security Specialty).
Experience designing or supporting security solutions for container platforms (e.g., OpenShift, Kubernetes).
Experience eveloping innovative security automation frameworks to accelerate compliance milestones.
Experience contributing to security runbooks, playbooks, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Familiarity with next-generation networking software tools for security monitoring and analysis.
Demonstrated ability to stay current with emerging cybersecurity technologies, compliance frameworks, and best practices.
