Overview

The System Performance Engineer Assistant is an entry-level role designed to support and develop future System Performance Engineers. This position is responsible for assisting with system optimization, data collection, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities while training under senior staff. Individuals in this role will be paired with more experienced engineers as they learn CTS standards, tools, and methodologies, with the expectation of progressing toward independent project responsibility. The candidate must live within the Northern California region and be flexible to travel as needed; travel is regional and in the field.

Key Responsibilities

Support and assist with system commissioning, optimization, and troubleshooting for DAS and repeater systems. Perform site surveys, benchmark testing, pre-design CW testing, and post-installation data collection. Assist with job site visits to monitor project progress and collect required RF data for system optimization. Conduct data post-processing, packing, and reporting in accordance with CTS standards. Gain proficiency in vendor-specific DAS equipment (Corning MobileAccess, Commscope, Solid, TE/Tyco, Teko, Dali, Zinwave, ADRF, Cisco, CSI, etc.) and their optimization techniques. Learn and apply knowledge of wireless technologies including GSM, CDMA, EVDO, UMTS, LTE, WiFi, WiMax, Public Safety, and SMR. Develop expertise in the use of test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, OTDRs, VFLs, power meters, transmitters, and scanning receivers. Support remote access setup and alarming for repeaters and DAS systems. Assist with system troubleshooting, including isolating issues, identifying RF interference, and working with carrier networks on script/neighbor list verification. Learn and apply iBwave design principles, RF math, and propagation modeling for in-building system design and performance measurement. Create rack elevations and fiber diagrams as part of system documentation. Maintain weekly reports, logs, and database updates to track project and optimization progress. Provide customer service support and represent CTS with professionalism on client sites.

Training & Development

Work under direct mentorship from senior System Performance Engineers. Learn CTS processes, standards, and vendor equipment operation. Progressively develop independence with an emphasis on rapid learning and assessment of skills. Build capability to travel independently to remote sites and complete project work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma + 2 years technical training or equivalent; working toward a degree preferred. Experience: Minimum 1 year in wireless or related technology field. Technical Skills: Basic computer proficiency (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Project). Foundational knowledge of data and voice networks. Strong adaptability and commitment to learning new technologies.

Salary : $60,000-$80,000. Pay commensurate with experience.
