Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Airworthiness Engineer / Sr. Principal Airworthiness Engineer - Aircraft Certification to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within the Office of Independent Airworthiness (OIAW). This position is based in San Diego, CA with remote capability. This position may be filled at either the Principal Airworthiness Engineer level or the Sr. Principal Airworthiness Engineer level based on the qualifications listed. Responsibilities

Performs technical airworthiness planning and verification support including development and negotiation of airworthiness plans, bases of certification, means of compliance, and other certification activities for complex total systems with IPT/REs as well as customer counterparts. Reviews and coordinates with other airworthiness engineers as well as internal engineering disciplines across the total system to include design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Performs functional and process analyses, requirements allocation and definition studies to translate customer requirements into criteria and derived requirements. Ensures the logical and systematic realization of customer airworthiness certification objectives into system solutions to meet program needs throughout the product lifecycle (e.g., Flight releases, Type certification, continued airworthiness, operations, and airspace integration). Responsible for managing and maintaining airworthiness evidence in support of Military Flight Releases and Air System Continued & Continuing Airworthiness as a member of the technical AW staff. The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and a collaborative/team setting across all levels. This position can be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below. Basic Qualifications

Principal Airworthiness Engineer (T03): Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university AND 5 years of related professional/military engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of related professional/military engineering experience; OR a Ph.D. in STEM with 0 years of related professional/military engineering experience. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance. Familiarity with MIL-HDBK-516B Expanded and -516C. Experience leading the development of Airworthiness plans, a Basis of Certification, and related activities. Experience with domestic and international UAS/RPAS airworthiness authorizations and type certifications. Sr. Principal Airworthiness Engineer (T04): Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university AND 9 years of related professional/military engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline with 7 years of related professional/military engineering experience; OR a Ph.D. in STEM with 4 years of related professional/military engineering experience. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance. Familiarity with MIL-HDBK-516B Expanded and -516C. Experience leading the development of Airworthiness plans, a Basis of Certification, and related activities. Experience with domestic and international UAS/RPAS airworthiness authorizations and type certifications. Preferred Qualifications

Military aircraft development or modification experience Ability to initiate Airworthiness Certification process improvement initiatives DoD and Civil Airworthiness Experience Experience with UAS/RPAS Design and Systems Engineering experience in areas such as Structures, Flight Technology, Air Vehicle Subsystems, Avionics, Mission Payload Integration, System Safety, Flight Test, and Configuration Management Experience with USAF Airworthiness Policy Directives, Instructions, and Airworthiness Bulletins (AWB) Control Account Management (CAM) and EVMS experience including IMS planning and tracking, EV reporting, variance analysis, and EAC forecasting Experience in a System Design Responsible (SDR) organization with signature authority Interactions with airworthiness authorities US DoD, MoD International, or civil authorities Familiarity with European Military Aviation Regulations (EMARs) Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and SharePoint Active U.S. Government in-scope DoD Secret security clearance or higher Salary Range: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00; Salary Range 2: $118,600.00 - $178,000.00. The above salary ranges are general guidelines; actual offers depend on scope, responsibilities, and candidate qualifications. Depending on the position, overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus may be available. Some roles may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
