Position
We are seeking a motivated and experienced
Field Engineer 2
to join our Life Safety Systems team. In this role, you will lead the testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and commissioning of complex fire alarm systems. As a mid-level contributor, you are expected to demonstrate a strong command of industry codes and standards, apply engineering principles in the field, and support both project delivery and client engagement. You will also mentor junior engineers and play a key role in quality assurance and continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities Lead field inspections and testing of medium to large-scale fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA standards and local codes, identifying compliance and performance issues.
Conduct advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and system reprogramming across various fire alarm platforms and manufacturers.
Independently generate inspection reports, service documentation, and compliance records with high accuracy and completeness.
Develop comprehensive site surveys for preventive maintenance contracts and system modifications; produce clear, detailed quotations for proposed work.
Support and oversee pre-testing and final commissioning processes for new installations and retrofit projects.
Perform complex calculations (battery sizing, voltage drop, NAC loading, system power requirements) and validate system design against field conditions.
Produce and review as-built redline drawings; collaborate with design and drafting teams to ensure timely document updates.
Lead and execute PITCO (Pre-Installation Testing and Check-Out) procedures.
Serve as an engineering resource on multiple job sites simultaneously, resolving technical issues, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring project timelines are met.
Conduct independent research using manufacturer literature, code references, and online resources to guide problem-solving and solution development.
Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and code updates.
Mentor Field Engineer 1 personnel, sharing best practices and assisting in skill development.

Qualifications 2+ years of experience with a Bachelor of Science Degree in a related engineering field. Or Master’s Degree of Science Degree with 0+ years of experience.

Abilities The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including loading, unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and ladders.
Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead regularly.
Good vision (may be corrected), color vision, and ability to hear and communicate in English.
May use a standard ladder within weight limits while carrying tools.
