Drop-in Center Food Coordinator - Spectrum/VHCB

Gain experience in the human service field, and have a tangible impact on the lives of young people while you collaborate with other passionate individuals to meet the rising needs for housing and homeless services in our community. Provide accessible and balanced meals to youth experiencing food insecurity. Plan and prepare meals, adhere to a weekly food budget, and manage food donations and kitchen volunteers. Engage youth participants and foster a safe, healthy environment at the Drop-In Center. This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board AmeriCorps (VHCB AmeriCorps). The VHCB AmeriCorps program supports the innovative dual-goal approach to creating stable affordable housing opportunities for Vermont residents while preserving the natural and working landscape. Spectrum Youth and Family Services' mission is to empower teenagers, young adults, and their families to make and sustain positive changes through prevention, intervention, and life skills services. This position is Full Time: Requires 1,720 hours for an average of 40 hours per week for 47 weeks. Member will receive a living allowance of $30,500 (pre-tax) and an education award of $7,395 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service.

Member Duties :

• Plan meals, grocery shop, manage food donations, and organize and maintain the Drop-In Kitchen for successful implementation of the meal program. • Cook and serve meals to youth at Drop-In Center. • Coordinate and lead healthy cooking, nutrition, and food preparation classes for youth. • Manage volunteers and help increase volunteer & meal donations program. • Coordinate with staff to provide informal counseling, support, and referral services to youth. Attend regular team meeting and group supervision. • Plan & engage youth in physical activities: hiking, basketball, etc. • Engage youth in harm reduction, psychoeducation groups, and conversations about healthy choices, coping skills and prosocial, sober choices. • Build community partnerships to maintain food access for Drop-In clients. • Participate in an Independent Service Project and in all VHCB AmeriCorps Trainings, Service Days, Events, and Program Initiatives.
