Purple Drive
A Senior-level networking professional specializing in complex Wide Area Networks (WANs) using
Software-Defined WAN (SD-WAN)
technology is responsible for architecting, securing, and optimizing large enterprise WAN environments, acting as a technical escalation point for challenging networking issues.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and resolve complex SD-WAN, routing, and connectivity issues as the escalation point for L1/L2 teams. Design, implement, and maintain multi-vendor SD-WAN solutions (e.g., VMware VeloCloud, Cisco Viptela, Silver Peak), focusing on scalability, reliability, and business requirements. Continuously monitor WAN/SD-WAN network performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize network speed, reliability, and efficiency. Administer network security including firewalls, VPNs, and zero-trust network architectures; implement encryption, segmentation, and security policies to protect infrastructure. Configure, analyze, and optimize routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), switching technologies (VLAN, STP, VRF), and VPNs (IPsec, DMVPN). Develop and maintain detailed network diagrams, documentation, and change controls for large enterprise networks. Mentor junior and mid-level engineers; act as a subject matter expert for network troubleshooting and root cause analysis. Collaborate with IT security teams, application owners, and vendor partners to deliver integrated SD-WAN and network solutions and stay abreast of evolving best practices. Required Experience
8+ years of progressive network engineering experience, with 4+ years focused on WAN and SD-WAN environments. In-depth mastery of SD-WAN vendor platforms (Cisco, VMware, Silver Peak, Fortinet, etc.), including implementation, configuration, and support. Advanced understanding and hands-on experience with routing (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), switching (VLAN, STP, VRF), and enterprise VPN technologies. Demonstrated history optimizing network performance, troubleshooting escalations, and implementing security controls in large-scale networks. Professional certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or vendor-specific SD-WAN credentials highly preferred. Proven expertise in scripting and automation for network operations is an advantage. Preferred Skills
Experience with hybrid WAN architectures spanning MPLS, broadband, LTE, and cloud connectivity. Strong analytical and diagnostic abilities using tools like Wireshark, NetFlow, and network monitoring platforms. Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and technical documentation.
