Overview
LVN/LPN - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union) at Keck Medicine of USC. The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) assists the Registered Nurse in providing care for a designated group of patients. The LVN utilizes the Nursing Process to provide therapeutic care under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Responsibilities
Escorts patients to exam rooms, obtains and records patient vital signs/medication lists, monitors patient flow, assists physicians with minor clinical procedures, performs EKGs, prepares patient charts with pertinent medical information, administers medications, and manages prescriptions as directed by the physician. Schedules diagnostic tests and surgeries as ordered by the physician as needed. Performs various administrative duties, including answering and returning phone calls, receiving and sorting faxes, and obtaining prior authorizations. Ensures patient privacy, safety, and confidentiality; maintains a safe environment in accordance with standards and safety regulations; ensures infection control compliance. Performs other duties as assigned. Essential Duties Uses and practices basic assessment, participates in planning, executes interventions per the plan of care, and contributes to evaluation of interventions related to the care plan. Provides direct patient care and administers medications. Demonstrates professional communication skills for patient care, education, and multidisciplinary team collaboration. Prepares patient charts prior to appointments including x-rays and pertinent lab work; sets up exam rooms and assists physicians with exams as needed; monitors patient flow. Performs basic administrative duties and handles telephone calls and correspondence. Acts as a liaison between physicians and other individuals; takes patient histories and vital signs and documents in the EMR; manages patient flow. Performs first aid and CPR if needed; assists physicians with exams and treatments as permitted by license. Organizes pharmacy refill requests for physician approval; works independently and in a team setting; triages patients in person and by phone; records patient information in chart/EHR according to regulatory standards. Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent Graduate of an accredited Vocational Nursing Program Ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word and Internet use Excellent customer service behavior Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive situations and confidential information Ability to make decisions effectively with appropriate stakeholder input Preferred Qualifications
2 years of experience in an acute care or ambulatory care setting LVN - Intravenous Therapy Certification (CA DCA) Required Licenses/Certifications
Licensed Vocational Nurse - LVN (CA DCA) Valid California Vocational Nursing license Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) — card required within 30 days of hire and renewal before expiration (LA City only) Compensation
