Subject Matter Expert End of Life Doula – Pediatric Specialist
Position Title Subject Matter Expert End of Life Doula – Pediatric Specialist Employment Status Employment Status Part Time Months Campus Campus Remote Description Subject matter experts (SMEs) within the College of Professional Studies ( CPS ) are critical to the success of UNE’s online programs. SMEs work closely with a member of the UNE Instructional Design Team who serves as the project manager, facilitates the development of the course, and ensures that pedagogy and content meet program expectations. SMEs receive supervision and guidance from the UNE Continuing Education (CE) Program Team and must work with Instructional Design to meet deliverable deadlines set by CPS . The role of the SME in this CPS course development is to help design a Continuing Education Non-Credit level End-of-Life Doula, Pediatrics focused course for online students using best practices for online education that are aligned to program learning outcomes and can be delivered by instructors other than/in addition to the SME . The course will focus on compassionate, non-medical care for pediatric clients and families. Responsibilities Creating a list of course learning outcomes Writing a course syllabus Designing engaging visual representations to help students learn content Creating engaging assignments, group activities and presentations, writing interactive discussion board topics that enable students to delve more deeply into the content while building community Designing assessments to measure learning outcomes Creating an instructor guide to assist course facilitators Provide expert knowledge in supporting families as it pertains to pediatrics, hospice care, aftercare and other applicable topics Develop learning modules that guide students through their educational experience while upholding and adhering to the CPS commitment to student success Willingness to analyze best practices in online education Curriculum design experience and familiarity with implementation of principle of backward design Demonstrated skill in creating learning activities and meaningful assessments of student learning Writing and editorial skill, understanding of copyright issues Technical skill in generating and editing chemical graphics/images Ability to design, edit, and embed multi-media content in html files Excellent collaborative and communication skills Ability to work independently once a task is thoroughly explained and effectively during time-on-task Commit to weekly check-in meetings with the Instructional Design team and/or the Program Participate in drafting a schedule for deliverables Meet agreed-upon deadlines per the master course development schedule Qualifications
The ideal candidate has experience teaching online in an educational setting, has demonstrated expertise in curriculum development and assessment, and has a passion for End of Life practices and education Master’s degree in Social Work, or relevant field, or a Certificate in End of Life Doula practices (or similar) Experience working with pediatric patients and families in the end of life space Teaching experience in the area of End-of-Life care A desire to motivate and encourage students Previous course development experience with working adult students and non-traditional students in an online setting Expertise teaching online and the desire to learn and apply new technological approaches to education Experience using the Brightspace/D2L Learning Management system EEO Statement Summary Consistent with federal and state law and University policy, the University of New England is committed to the fundamental concept of equal opportunity for all of the members of the University community.
