Summary
As a Project Engineer, you will work in a team environment to participate in McKenney’s preconstruction processes, design and virtual construction, fabrication workflows, field installation, mechanical systems, and start-up and commissioning of those systems. Learning objectives include detailing mechanical systems (ductwork, mechanical piping, and plumbing), coordinating work with customers and other trades through the BIM process, estimating projects, interacting with suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors, and working in the field as part of an installation crew. The role also emphasizes developing relationships through regular interactions with project managers, field and shop foremen, virtual construction team members, field operations, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors. Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, or building construction; or equivalent business management degree with a focus in construction or engineering. If no 4-year degree is attained, a High School diploma with a minimum of 5+ years of internal experience working with plumbing, piping, or HVAC systems in office or field settings. Proficiency in Windows environments and basic PC skills (word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, Web-enabled applications, and database software). Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated interest or experience in the construction industry. Two years of experience managing mechanical work. Strong business acumen (entrepreneurship counts). Knowledge of account management (managing multiple customers). Leadership exposure (conferences, training, etc.). Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Characteristics
Strong leadership, self-motivation, team orientation, and ability to respond quickly to changing customer demands. Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals. Self-starter who can work well independently and as part of a team. Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize drafting needs to maximize profitability. Ability to communicate effectively across diverse groups (PMs, drafting, field staff, fabrication shops, etc.). Solid reasoning, math, science, and technical skills. Ability to take on additional responsibilities and manage priorities with minimal guidance. Strong work ethic, project ownership, and alignment with company values. Ability to attain results under adverse circumstances and resolve conflicts. Working Conditions
Moderate exposure to environmental elements (heat/cold, dust, noise). Work environment includes construction-related hazards; follow basic safety precautions. Light physical effort; ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds; some standing or walking. Equal Opportunity and Safety
