Sr. Reliability Engineer (Critical Infrastructure) – Hawthorne, CA
SpaceX is seeking a Sr. Reliability Engineer to join the Critical Infrastructure team. You will help design, build, activate and maintain SpaceX’s manufacturing facilities and oversee ongoing operations and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and utilities. This role involves corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance, as well as providing operational and design feedback to maintain and improve all systems at SpaceX's Hawthorne production facility. Responsibilities
Lead internal project teams, consulting engineers and contractors through the MEP engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and maintenance processes. Provide technical engineering support to ensure construction and maintenance comply with standards, codes, and specifications. Verify maintenance activities and coordinate repair, build, and contingency efforts for HVAC, electrical, cranes, facility systems (lighting, doors, roof leaks), security systems, and fire protection systems. Manage design, development, and issuance of drawings, documentation, and reports for aerospace, large commercial or industrial projects. Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field with multiple parties. Prepare and coordinate capital expenditure processes, including reviews, approvals and execution of site capital projects ensuring technical specs, budget and deadlines are met. Work with AHJ to obtain building permits when appropriate and ensure final inspections are completed prior to project closeout. Communicate and schedule building/maintenance activities with personnel, subcontractors and suppliers to meet deadlines. Ensure reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations. Respond to facility emergencies and own facility readiness procedures for environmental threats. Write, negotiate, and manage scope across multiple disciplines related to MEP engineering. Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or another engineering discipline. 5+ years of professional experience with the design or build of MEP building systems. Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or engineering design software. Preferred Skills and Experience
Direct field experience managing aerospace, heavy industrial or large commercial construction projects. Conceptual design and budgeting experience. Contract management for large capital projects. Experience managing engineering, procurement, and construction for aerospace or heavy industrial projects. Primary experience with electrical and power distribution systems. HVAC operation and design principles including refrigeration, chillers, boilers, and air handling equipment. Plumbing design and operation including domestic water, wastewater, venting, and storm systems. Knowledge of delta/wye transformers, building lighting, construction specs, and facility grounding. Experience with critical power infrastructure including UPS systems, backup generators, and ATS. Ability to assess issues quickly and assist technicians with troubleshooting and repair. Ability to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment with extended hours and tight deadlines. Acute attention to detail and awareness of interdependencies with other systems. Familiarity with NEC, ASHRAE, NFPA, and IBC. Additional Requirements
Provide 24/7 on-call support for all critical activities and emergencies. Not a remote or hybrid position; relocation to Hawthorne, CA may be required. Occasional extended hours and weekend work. Ability to stand, crawl, stoop, and lift up to 30 lbs. unassisted. Ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts when needed. Compensation and Benefits
Pay range: Sr. Reliability Engineer/Level III: $125,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year. Final level and salary determined based on job-related knowledge, education and experience. Base salary is part of a total rewards package including potential stock incentives, bonuses, and other benefits (medical, vision, dental, 401(k), disability and life insurance, paid parental leave, vacation and holidays, paid sick leave). Eligible for long-term incentives, stock options, or Employee Stock Purchase Plan, as well as benefits described above.
