Overview
SpaceX is developing the technologies to enable human life on Mars. FACILITIES ENGINEER, MEP As a member of the critical infrastructure team, you will help design, build, activate and maintain advanced manufacturing facilities. You will operate with autonomy to solve diverse problems, manage multiple projects, and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You will participate, coordinate, and execute infrastructure projects and oversee ongoing operations and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and utilities, including corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance and operational feedback for improving systems at SpaceX's Hawthorne production facility. RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead internal project teams, consulting engineers and contractors throughout the MEP engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and maintenance process. Provide technical engineering support to ensure construction/maintenance complies with all standards, codes, and specifications. Verify maintenance is completed and coordinate repair, build, and contingency efforts for HVAC, electrical, cranes, facility systems (lighting, doors, roof leaks), security systems, and fire protection systems. Manage design, development, and issuance of drawings, documentation, and reports for aerospace, large commercial or industrial projects. Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field with multiple parties. Prepare and coordinate capital expenditure processes, including reviews, approvals and execution of site capital projects ensuring technical specifications, budget, and deadlines are met. Work with AHJs to acquire building permits when appropriate and ensure all certificates and final inspections are obtained prior to project close-out. Communicate building/maintenance activities and schedule to personnel, subcontractors and material suppliers to execute deadlines. Ensure reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations. Respond to facility emergencies and own facility readiness procedures for environmental threats. Write, negotiate, and manage scope across multiple disciplines related to MEP engineering. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related engineering discipline. 3+ years of professional experience with the design or build of MEP building systems. Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or engineering design software. PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Direct field experience with day-to-day management of aerospace, heavy industrial or large commercial construction projects. Experience in conceptual design and budgeting. Experience in contract management for large capital projects. Experience in managing the engineering, procurement, and construction process for aerospace or heavy industrial projects. Primary experience with electrical and power distribution systems. Knowledge of HVAC operation and design including refrigeration, chillers, boilers, and air handling equipment. Experience with plumbing design and operation including domestic water, wastewater, venting, and storm systems. Working knowledge of delta/wye transformers, building lighting, construction specifications, and facility grounding. Experience with critical power infrastructure including UPS systems, backup generators, and automatic transfer switches. Ability to rapidly assess issues and assist technicians with troubleshooting and repair. Ability to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment, with possible extended hours and tight deadlines. Acute attention to detail and ability to see how systems interact to avoid problems. Familiarity with National Electric Code, ASHRAE, NFPA, and International Building Code. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Provide 24/7 on-call support for all critical activities and emergencies. This is not a remote or hybrid position and requires relocation if not local to Hawthorne, CA. Occasional extended hours and weekend work may be required. Physical ability to stand, crawl, stoop, and lift up to 30 lbs unassisted. Ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts as needed. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Pay range: Facilities Engineer, MEP/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year Facilities Engineer, MEP/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year Your actual level and base salary are determined case-by-case based on job-related knowledge, education and experience. Base salary is one part of SpaceX total rewards, which may include long-term incentives, bonuses, and stock-related programs, as well as comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) plan, disability and life insurance, parental leave, and other benefits.
