Overview
The Bridge Inspection Engineer, Bridges and Structures role is part of Transportation Jobs with David Evans and Associates. Our Transportation Business Unit focuses on four markets: Bridges and Structures, Roads and Highways, Transit and Rail, and Construction Engineering. The Bridges and Structures team is seeking a Bridge Inspection Engineer in Portland, OR; Salem, OR; Bellevue, WA; Olympia, WA; Seattle, WA; Spokane, WA; Tacoma, WA; Denver, CO; Boise, ID; or Salt Lake City, UT. Our national Bridge Inspection and Preservation Group is hiring for a Bridge Inspection Engineer to support transportation-related projects in multiple markets. An optimal candidate will have experience with bridge inspection and bridge load rating practices, as well as bridge design experience. The role involves planning and executing bridge and tunnel inspection work orders and stand-alone projects, performing structural analyses, and developing calculations using the AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation and other codes for structural load ratings. Knowledge of bridge design procedures and AASHTO LRFD and Standard Specifications is preferred. Typical projects include inspections for reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, steel, and timber structures, and load ratings for bridges of all types and sizes.
What You’ll Do
Organizing information for use in project documents
Assisting or leading bridge projects by creating inspection reports, load rating summaries, concept reports, and Type, Size and Location reports
Performing condition inspections of existing bridges and tunnels
Generating and editing bridge inspection reports
Assisting or leading the development of engineering calculations utilizing spreadsheets and various analysis and design software packages
Assisting or leading the development of engineering drawing details
Developing engineering quantity and cost estimates
Assisting or leading the development of project specifications
Reviewing contractor submittals during construction
Assisting or leading bridge rehabilitation and maintenance projects
What You Bring Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
Minimum 5 years of applicable bridge inspection, load rating, and/or design experience
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
Successful completion of NHI 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges, or NHI-approved equivalent
Proficiency in current bridge inspection and management software
Experience with current bridge load rating or analysis software platforms
Knowledge of bridge design software such as SAP2000, Midas Civil, LARSA 4D, PG Super, Conspan and/or LPile
Experience with MathCAD
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word
Knowledge of drafting software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD and Civil 3D
Physically able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
Ability to communicate and work in a team-oriented environment
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
Knowledge of representative state DOT bridge inspection and load rating standards and guidelines
Successful completion of NHI 130078 Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges
Active certification as a Rope Access Technician through SPRAT

Potential salary range:
$105,000 - $155,000
