Job Description
Dewberry has a unique opportunity for a Bridge Design and Inspection Engineer in our
Fairfax, VA
office with 3 - 10 years of bridge design experience and bridge inspection experience. The successful candidate will design bridges and a variety of civil structures (primarily of steel and concrete construction) using applicable software. The candidate will be responsible for designing steel and concrete bridge elements, performing bridge load ratings, developing reinforcing bar lists and quantities, and reviewing shop drawings. Bridge design work encompasses new and replacement bridges, bridge widenings, and bridge rehabilitation. The candidate will also be responsible for assisting and/or leading Bridge Safety Inspections in Northern Virginia. Responsibilities will include bridge inspections as part of rehabilitation or repair task orders as well as on major Design-Build projects for locations within Virginia. The approximate split between Design and Inspection work is 70%-30%. Required Skills & Required Experience
BS in Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of bridge engineering experience. Professional Engineering license is preferred. 3 to 10 years relevant, recent experience in the field of bridge inspection and design Experience with VDOT bridge design and bridge safety inspection standards is preferred. At least 1 year as an NBIS-qualified Team Leader in accordance with 23 CFR 650, Subpart C Successful completion of NHI-130055 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges) or NHI-130053 (Bridge Inspection Refresher Training) within the last 4 years; Successful completion of NHI-130078 (Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges) within the last 4 years; Successful completion of NHI-130087 (Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures); Work outdoors in diverse weather conditions, at heights, in confined spaces, over water and in close proximity to traffic. Have a working knowledge of traffic control requirements for bridge inspections and ability to coordinate with MOT subcontractors Ability use of computers applications, bridge engineering software and Microstation (CADD). Experience with AASHTOWare Bridge Rating software is preferred. Understanding of bridge safety inspection methods, structural behavior, deterioration characteristics of bridge materials, and bridge maintenance, repair and rehabilitation methods is preferred.
