Overview

Electrical Engineer/Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Distribution, Livermore, CA. GILLIG is a leading transit bus manufacturer focused on zero-emission vehicles and reliable, durable buses designed in Livermore, CA. DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW: GILLIG Engineering develops, configures, and validates clean-technology heavy-duty transit buses. Electrical Engineering designs, develops, and optimizes electrical systems and components for safety, durability, and performance, including low and high voltage power distribution, CANbus topology, infotainment/CAD/AVL & surveillance system integration, and regulatory compliance across production launches and field support. About the Role

The Electrical Engineer/Senior Electrical Engineer position is a hands-on role responsible for transit bus electrical design. Duties include requirements analysis, concept and detailed design, problem resolution, BOM development, supplier/component research, and cross-functional collaboration to industrialize electrical systems for manufacturing of heavy-duty transit buses. This role has direct influence at systems and component levels to optimize vehicle functionality and performance. This is a direct, full-time, on-site position reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager (and may receive guidance from senior engineers). Technical Focus

Power and Signal Distribution : Deliver customized vehicle-based power and signal distribution systems through harnesses, devices, fusing, and connectors. Consider routing and environmental conditions for heavy-duty industrial/automotive applications. Experience with low voltage (12/24VDC) and high voltage (600VDC, 240/480VAC) required. Experience with electrical harness manufacturing and/or industrial control systems is a plus. In This Role You Will

Create and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) and define part applications Gather information on supplier components and existing GILLIG designs to optimize concepts Collaborate with the team to define action plans and modify processes as required Use analytical tools to assess designs (power, grounding, protection, harmonics, durability) Use ECAD tools to create, review, and release vehicle electrical components, schematics, and harness assemblies Participate in the release process to production; provide input for Change Control, PCO, and EPC releases Support designs through lifecycle: development, production launch, variants, customization, and field support Work with test engineers to create DVP&R, execute tests, and review results Provide engineering input for technical publications (service, parts, and driver manuals) Collaborate with mechanical, controls, and manufacturing engineers Troubleshoot vehicle electrical and network issues Senior Level – Additional Responsibilities Provide input on modular BOM structure for configuration efficiency Perform design trade-offs to create robust, manufacturable designs Involve in Customer & Design REI releases, BOM structuring, and related changes Partner with test engineers to develop and review DVP&R and test results Operate in a primary role, proposing solutions to senior staff Scope of the Role
