Sr. Systems Engineer 1 (Power BI) at Exelon Hybrid position (in-office with remote flexibility). Employees are required to be in office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Candidate must sit within Exelon service territories in Chicago, IL; Baltimore, MD or Philadelphia, PA. No relocation will be provided. Primary Purpose
The IT Sr Systems Engineer I position serves as a senior technical role within the IT department. It requires demonstrated experience in information technology, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively independently, as a mentor, and as part of a team. The candidate will provide technical insights driving design, implementation, and optimization of complex systems under the guidance of a Principal Engineer or Manager. Collaborates with IT architecture to define strategy and works with various teams to implement high-quality systems to meet business requirements. Responsibilities include delivering and supporting IT infrastructure, product and platform solutions, and designing and delivering complex IT system initiatives across cloud, non-cloud and hybrid-cloud environments. Influences other IT teams, leadership, enterprise business partners, vendors and project/design teams in the secure and reliable hosting of applications. Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and manage advanced Power BI dashboards, reports, and datasets tailored to business needs. Build optimized data models (star/snowflake schemas) using Power BI and integrate with diverse data sources (SQL, Azure, Excel, APIs, etc.). Lead BI projects from requirements gathering to deployment, working with cross-functional teams. Perform data analysis, profiling, cleansing, and transformation to ensure high data quality and reliability. Implement row-level security (RLS), DAX calculations, and performance tuning of Power BI reports. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand KPIs and deliver actionable, user-friendly visualizations. Establish best practices for Power BI governance, including workspaces, version control, and data refresh strategies. Mentor junior developers and contribute to the overall maturity of the BI function. Note:

Lead discussions with business partners and vendors to gather information. Consult with leadership, architecture, project teams and end users to identify system requirements and perform feasibility analysis on potential changes related to existing and future security and technical architectures. Write and disseminate system specifications, logical & physical architecture diagrams, and implementation plans. Deliver practical, efficient, and cost-effective solutions that satisfy business needs, including hands-on configuration, troubleshooting and optimization, and supporting metrics. Work with teams to develop future plans, resource requirements, migration strategies, and project schedules. Create and deliver presentations to Engineering and Architecture Review Boards. Possess deep understanding of current technologies and service offerings. Provide oversight for less experienced engineers. Design, support and maintain custom system integration with other platforms, aligned to customer needs. Maintain relevancy and knowledge of current and evolving IT systems technologies. Identify and manage risks and issues, providing supporting data to leadership and peers. Maintain knowledge of and compliance with preferred technologies, methodologies, standards and policies. Demonstrate strong debugging and problem-solving skills; participate in peer code reviews. Job Scope Designing, delivering, documenting, and supporting infrastructure systems. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Computer Networking; 4 - 7 years' experience in IT infrastructure design, application design, cloud computing, disaster/recovery, or 6-9 years of relevant experience. Experience with system administration and documenting processes & procedures. Experience transitioning work to operational teams. 5+ years of Power BI development experience with data analytics and business intelligence. Strong business acumen within own discipline and ability to solve complex problems; ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences. Ability to build and maintain relationships with strong teamwork skills and to influence across organization levels. Willingness to leverage emerging technologies to deliver creative solutions; familiarity with project management principles. Ability to perform financial impact analysis and understand monitoring and auto-healing opportunities. Knowledge of PowerShell or similar scripting for automation is a plus. Preferred Qualifications
Advanced proficiency in DAX, Power Query (M), and Power BI Service. Strong knowledge of data warehousing, ETL processes, and relational databases (SQL Server, Azure Synapse). Experience with Power BI gateways, dataflows, and enterprise deployment strategies. Ability to analyze complex datasets and design intuitive dashboards. Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance standards. Strong communication and storytelling skills with stakeholders. Microsoft Certification PL-300 or DA-100. Experience with Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, or Data Lake; Python or R familiarity; Power BI REST API for automation. Exposure to Agile methodologies, DevOps pipelines, and CI/CD for BI artifacts. Industry experience in finance, healthcare, logistics, or manufacturing is a plus. Benefits
