System Engineer IV Location: Boulder, CO (Onsite) Terms: Full-Time Clearance: U.S. Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Travel: Up to 10% RIVA Solutions supports NOAA GSL through a range of IT, systems engineering, cybersecurity, and DevOps services. Position Overview
RIVA Solutions is seeking a
System Engineer IV
to join our NOAA GSL support team in Boulder, CO. This role is responsible for configuration, maintenance, and advanced operations of Linux environments in support of experimental weather research applications. The selected candidate will operate independently with minimal supervision while collaborating with technical team members and stakeholders to plan and implement complex IT solutions. This role includes technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to strategic IT projects across the organization.
Core Responsibilities Linux and Windows Systems
Maintain configuration management tools (SaltStack or similar) Monitor systems using Pandora FMS Install and upgrade Linux operating systems and third-party software Apply Linux security strategies Install/configure peripheral devices, automounters, and license managers Manage firewalls (iptables, nftables) Install and manage Python, Apache, NGINX for developer support Manage and tune file systems (LVM, NFS, journaled, striped/mirrored) Perform performance analysis and system tuning Write scripts to automate processes Document system configurations and manage automated diagnostics
Cloud And Container Environments
Manage AWS services (EC2, S3, AppStream) Plan, document, and implement complex cloud-based IT solutions Participate in CI/CD efforts and container management
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience) Minimum 4 years of experience as a System Engineer in complex Linux environments Systems administration experience with RedHat Linux, Windows, and MacOS Familiarity with DNS, NIS, NFS, TCP/IP, X Window-based applications Proven experience supporting heterogeneous computing environments Strong shell scripting and automation skills Experience supporting virtual servers, both on-prem and in the cloud Strong documentation, communication, and project coordination skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Mass storage systems, NFS appliances and RAID, NAS and relational databases (Postgres, MySQL, Couchbase), networking and container orchestration, SaltStack, CI/CD pipelines, AWS Cloud
Salary
Up to
$150,000
(based on experience)
