Overview

Structural Engineer 3 - Grid at Sargent & Lundy. Hybrid work arrangement: three days in the office, two days remote. This role applies knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design within a power transmission modifications and upgrades context. You will create calculations, document designs, and specifications as part of an engineering and design team. Responsibilities

Work on challenging assignments that involve investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of structural engineering issues. Perform structural analysis and detailed design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment, and foundations. Develop integrated structural designs and perform supporting calculations for planned work. Interface directly with the client and communicate technical information. Prepare technical specifications for structural materials. Perform independent reviews of work performed by others, including calculations and drawing preparation. Coordinate and provide guidance to other engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers to ensure a complete and timely design. Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and replacements, and present findings and recommendations to clients and peers. Engage in peer-learning through S&L’s Communities of Practice and knowledge sharing. Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to substations for construction coordination and field verification of designs. Qualifications - Essential Skills And Experience

BSCE or MSCE from an ABET-accredited program with strong background in materials behavior, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design. Three or more years of experience as a practicing structural engineer, preferably on electrical substation design and upgrades. Effective communication with clients at an appropriate technical level. Ability to perform walk-downs and visit client sites for scoping meetings. Experience writing and supporting documentation for structural engineering calculations. Ability to complete assignments within budget and schedule with high accuracy. Knowledge of practical applications of structural engineering, including analysis for supports, loads, and design integrity. Experience with design techniques for producing technical plans, drawings, and models. Proficiency with MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D, or RISA Floor (or equivalent). Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Qualifications - Valued But Not Required
