Lead Structural Engineer 2 - Grid Sargent & Lundy is looking for an experienced Lead Structural Engineer to support a range of power transmission modifications, upgrades, and design projects. The successful candidate will directly apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design to create calculations, design documents, and specifications.

Responsibilities

Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a diverse set of structural engineering issues.

Perform structural analysis and detailed design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment, and foundations.

Develop integrated structural designs and support calculations for planned work.

Interface with clients and communicate technical information.

Prepare technical specifications for structural materials.

Review calculations and drawings prepared by others.

Coordinate and guide other engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers to ensure complete and timely design.

Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and replacements, presenting findings and recommendations.

Engage in peer learning and knowledge sharing through S&L’s process systems and “Communities of Practice.”

Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to substation locations for construction coordination and field verification.

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement: three days per week in the office with the flexibility to work remotely for two days. Depending on location, a generous relocation package may be offered.

Qualifications We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.

Essential Skills And Experience

BSCE or MSCE from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program with a strong focus on materials behavior, structural analysis, steel design, and reinforced concrete.

12+ years of experience as a practicing structural engineer, preferably within a project team focused on design and upgrade of electrical substations.

Strong communication skills, able to convey appropriate technical detail to clients.

Ability to conduct occasional walk‑downs and attend scoping meetings on site.

Experience writing and supporting documentation for structural engineering calculations.

Capability to complete assignments within budget and schedule with high accuracy.

Technical knowledge of practical structural engineering application, including analysis for supports, loads, and design integrity.

Proficiency with design tools such as MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D, and RISA Floor.

Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.

Valued But Not Required Skills And Experience

PE license.

Experience designing light industrial building structures.

Compensation Range $131,960.00 – $205,330.00
