Overview
Safety Manager (Construction) at Cumming Group. The role focuses on overseeing safety programs and standards for a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing client, aligning with the client’s program. Works closely with engineering, maintenance and on-site operations teams to identify and mitigate safety hazards during site activities and capital upgrade timelines. Responsibilities
Serve as the technical field construction health and safety professional, providing hands-on field work for occupational health and safety support and technical assurance for construction and maintenance projects. Support Capital Project Management and Facilities Project Management on health and safety issues primarily during construction phases, with potential involvement in design and planning stages. Build good working relationships with project teams and contractor safety representatives. Enforce safety programs, policies and procedures; implement immediate corrective actions in accordance with client, contractor, Federal, State and Local regulations. Review contractor Site Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs), Health and Safety programs, and submittals for requisite health and safety considerations. Meet with contractor safety teams to establish rules of conduct for a Multi-Employer site. Review contractor job hazard analyses before the start of each shift and audit JHAs. Conduct qualitative and quantitative hazard evaluations and assessments; provide recommendations to prevent exposures to safety hazards. Walk construction and maintenance projects in a hands-on, field manner to ensure hazards are identified and controls are implemented. Hold pre-construction planning meetings with contractors to review site safety programs and JHAs; ensure plans mitigate risks. Ensure proper pre-planning for all contractor activities are reviewed by the contractor’s safety team. Perform audits of contractor safety performance; manage time and resource allocation to provide safety leadership. Create safety reports for the project, analyze metrics and recommend improvements over baseline. Participate in inspections and conferences with governing entities or insurers as needed. Respond to incidents, conduct investigations, and submit incident reports to the client; assist with disciplinary actions if needed. Ensure all work follows applicable SOPs and MOPs; maintain a safe and clean construction site. Knowledge & Skills Required
8+ years of building construction safety experience for a General Contractor or a Pharmaceutical client on large-scale projects. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) current designation through BCSP. Minimum OSHA 30-hour training, First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED training. Solid working knowledge of Cal/OSHA requirements. Experience working on a Multi-Employer site is a plus. Demonstrated knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques; ability to identify exposures and lead corrective actions. Strong management, leadership and interpersonal skills; effective written and verbal communication; ability to train others. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. Education: Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene or engineering or related field preferred. Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this full-time role is $91,000.00-$121,333.35 per year. Salary ranges are based on position, geography, client and experience. This range reflects base salary only and not the total compensation package. Cumming Group reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range based on candidate experience, skills and qualifications.
