Responsibilities

Transform Target’s material handling automation systems to highly automated systems with robotics and transportation systems that are not tied to or require linear product flow.

Ensure systems have high levels of redundancy and operate in a matrixed flow, delivering full-service technical solutions that are sustainable and scalable for future changes.

Define the automation system technologies to be deployed in Target facilities and support all automation-related activities, including implementation and sustainability and other automation process integration activities.

Work with internal and external technology partners to integrate middleware systems enabling flexible, scalable, and reliable automated systems, including use of simulation and emulation solutions.

Lead supply chain automation and robotic system architecture and engineering standards, and support rollout across a large scale of Supply Chain facilities.

Drive alignment to standards and specifications in partnership with cross-team engineering, business stakeholders, vendor teams, UX designers, and data scientists.

Influence quality delivery and rollout of design elements and architecture requirements for automation solutions to improve facility performance by integrating technology seamlessly.

Analyze, research, design, integrate and deliver solutions that provide value to Target’s warehouses, while remaining connected to future options and maintaining existing solutions.

Collaborate across teams to drive artifacts and engineering improvements for all Supply Chain automation solutions, including material flow end-to-end with data science, project, product, technology and engineering teams.

View each owned solution through a lens of continuous improvement, safety, security and stability with long-range plans and business benefits.

Act as integration expert to deliver based on standards, specifications and industry-leading processes; build strong partnerships with Target teams and external partners.

Develop and maintain artifacts such as Description of Operations, messaging specifications, software specifications, standards and contracts.

Encourage open exchange of information, inspire colleagues to achieve high standards, and partner with teams to meet goals while adapting to changing business needs.

About You

Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)

6+ years of Engineering or Supply Chain experience

Lean and/or Six Sigma process expertise preferred

Software engineering experience preferred

Industrial automation experience and expertise

Material handling industry standard artifacts proficiency and experience (Examples: Automation KPIs, Description of Operations, software specifications, Controller ladder logic, messaging standards and alignment, ramp planning, design build process, etc.)

Ability to explain complex OT solutions clearly to align partners

Expertise with Warehouse Systems (WMS, WES, ASRS, WCS, SCADA, etc.) and related solutions

User experience and customer-focused with experience driving end-state solutions for engineering personas

Understanding of automation interaction with inventory systems in the market

Ability to drive vendor partners to specific requirements and hold them accountable for delivery and budget

Experience with data inputs/outputs of Emulation and Simulation of software and/or robotics solutions

Experience in building strategic long-range plans with industry and engineer partners

Embraces engineered solutions and optimization of end-to-end processes

Ability to facilitate communication between business and technology teams

Proven ability to lead a body of work with cross-functional partners

Demonstrated ability to influence peers, stakeholders and leaders

Experience in technical leadership roles – field or IT/OT

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to travel up to 25%

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. Core role may be performed onsite at Target HQ MN or virtually depending on day-to-day requirements.
