Job Summary: This is an advanced level, individual contributor position in the Control Systems business solving a variety of technical problems of varying complexity. The Control Systems group is a start-up business inside an established medical device development organization. The direct responsibilities for this position include design, development, and execution of system level solutions for a real-time control system product line for medical instruments. The incumbent provides technical leadership, project management, application support, and may involve representing the company where technical credibility is required. They will also provide expert explanations, techniques or approaches to colleagues, management and customers Responsibilities: Provide technical input and for complex design & development projects Design, implement and deliver high quality, robust embedded control systems for the business Create, maintain, and review technical documents and reports including design specifications, architecture, performance analysis, and simulations Drive system requirements with other members of the engineering team as appropriate and collaboratively decompose the system requirements into other engineering requirements Plan, lead, or conduct experiments to evaluate operating characteristics of breadboards, prototypes, or products, and then translate experimental results into design criteria Work directly with internal and external customers to provide guidance for sound system level solutions to custom control systems Ensure component reliability based on technical evaluation of suppliers’ specifications and designs Utilize systems engineering best practices including sound scientific principles for experiments and reliability Develop reliability models for electromechanical sub-assemblies and assemblies. Work cooperatively across all engineering disciplines, such as software, systems, electrical, and mechanical, as well as non-engineering team members, such as Project management, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Support, to deliver projects on time and on budget Prepare project requests detailing proposed engineering work costs and product timetable Be responsible for application engineering support to customers, and assist in troubleshooting customer application problems Support Verification and Certification by defining, specifying and supervising testing, analysis, regression, and preparation of reports to document the results of such activities Provide technical presentation support and consultation to marketing Represent the company in customer communications Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent scientific discipline with at least 9 years of experience in systems engineering and control system design and development Diversified knowledge of engineering theories, concepts, principles, practices, and processes, including in one or more areas of advanced technical expertise, and possess creativity and originality sufficient to contribute to new inventions, designs, or techniques that are of material significance in the solution of important problems Experience with real-time feedback loops, control systems, PID tuning, and electromechanical design, and the ability to apply these skills to solve a variety of system requirements Expertise with system design approaches for electromechanical systems, including stepper and servo motors Previous experience with design for medical devices preferred Familiarity with design of test equipment and fixtures preferred Skills Abilities: Must be able to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment Must be self-motivated Must have good communication skills #LI-SW1 Here Are Some of the Great Benefits We Offer: Most locations offer a 9/80 schedule providing every other Friday off Competitive compensation & 401k program to plan for your future Robust medical, dental, vision, & disability coverage with qualified wellness discounts Basic Life Insurance and Additional Life & AD&D Insurances are available Flexible Vacation & PTO Generous Employee Referral Program Voluntary Benefits Available: Longer Term Care, Legal, Identify Theft, Pet Insurance, and more Voluntary Tricare Supplement available for military retirees This job description does not list all the duties of the job.
