The Village of Oak Brook (pop. 8,163) is located 15 miles west of downtown Chicago. Reporting to the Development Services Director, the Chief Building Official is responsible for overseeing the supervisory and technical duties related to the administration and enforcement of the Village of Oak Brook code and applicable ordinances. Areas of responsibility will encompass building, plumbing, and land development code, and requires direct supervision of full and part-time staff. The position is both internal and public-facing and provides a high level of service to Oak Brook residents, visitors, and staff. The successful candidate will have a minimum of ten years’ experience of progressively responsible experience in building, design, building inspection, plan review, construction management, and code enforcement, with 5 years’ supervisory experience preferred. A thorough knowledge of the International Building Code series is required, as well as knowledge of structural design, electrical systems and design, HVAC systems, building and construction site safety, egress, building and site accessibility requirements, building life safety, and other construction systems.
