We are seeking a highly qualified and security-minded
Communications Security (COMSEC) Manager
to lead our company’s COMSEC program. This role is responsible for ensuring the safeguarding, accountability, and control of all COMSEC materials and devices, in strict compliance with
NSA, DoD, CNSSI, and federal regulations . As a fast-growing aerospace and defense company, we need someone who can
hit the ground running
while also designing a scalable COMSEC program to support our rapid growth, engineering test environments, and government contracts. The COMSEC Manager will be a trusted partner across IT, Cybersecurity, Compliance, and Engineering teams, while also serving as the primary interface with government security authorities. Responsibilities
Manage and administer the company’s COMSEC program in compliance with
NSA, DoD 5220.22-M, CNSSI 4000 series, and NISPOM
requirements. Serve as
COMSEC Custodian , responsible for the secure receipt, control, storage, distribution, and destruction of COMSEC keying material and equipment. Maintain meticulous inventory and accounting records for all COMSEC assets using EKMS/KMI systems. Develop, maintain, and enforce
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
for COMSEC handling, incident response, reporting, and audits. Conduct internal self-inspections, prepare for government audits, and ensure timely resolution of corrective actions. Provide COMSEC training and awareness programs for staff and designate/train an
Alternate COMSEC Custodian . Investigate and report
COMSEC incidents, compromises, or violations , coordinating with NSA/DoD for resolution. Collaborate closely with
IT, Cybersecurity, Facilities Security Officer (FSO), and Compliance
to integrate COMSEC requirements into the company’s broader
Information Security Management System (ISMS)
and
CMMC/NIST 800-171 compliance frameworks . Support
field test operations, engineering sites, and remote facilities , ensuring secure communications in rugged or classified environments. Participate in the
GRICS (Governance, Risk, IT, Compliance & Security) Committee , providing updates on COMSEC posture and risks. Stay current with
NSA cryptographic modernization initiatives
and implement upgrades to COMSEC equipment as required. Ensure COMSEC program compliance with
ITAR, export controls, and contractual security obligations
(e.g., DD254, customer/government security requirements). Minimum Qualifications
Active TS/SCI with CI Polygraph eligibility. 5+ years of COMSEC experience
in aerospace, defense, or government environments. Completion of
NSA COMSEC Custodian training
or equivalent. Demonstrated experience of COMSEC equipment (e.g.,
KG-175D/TACLANE, KIV devices, secure phones, key loaders ). Experience managing keying material and electronic key management systems ( EKMS/KMI ). Preferred Skills and Experience
Proven compliance background with
DoD, NSA, CNSSI, and NISPOM . Previous experience as a
COMSEC Custodian or Alternate Custodian . Familiarity with
CMMC, NIST 800-171, ITAR, and FedRAMP
requirements. Knowledge of classified networks ( SIPRNet, JWICS, NSANet ) and COMSEC controls. Experience working in
test-site or engineering-heavy environments . Leadership experience in scaling compliance/security programs. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Additional Information
Compensation
bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
