Grand Center Inc. (GCI) is a non-profit organization that creates the conditions for a thriving creative community in Grand Center Arts District, located in the heart of Midtown St. Louis. GCI focuses on community connections, District improvements, and the sustainability of our organization and the Grand Center Arts District. Our work includes infrastructure improvements, managing security, installation of public art, activation of public space, district tours, collaborative district marketing, economic development, and convening partners to work together on larger, district-focused programs. Job Purpose:

The Finance and Operations Director (FOD) acts as the head of the organization’s accounting and financial reporting function, providing oversight of the organization’s financials and financial information and reports to management by researching and analyzing accounting data. The FOD is responsible for the operational activities of the organization within our facilities and in relation to district responsibilities This role is a full-time position and reports directly to the President/CEO of Grand Center Inc. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: General Responsibilities: Be a strategic partner to leadership, proactively providing the potential financial and operational implications of any proposed endeavors or plans. Be a champion for the organization’s resources through strategic budget development. Protect the organization’s resources by developing a strong system of internal controls and providing ongoing monitoring to ensure controls are being followed. Improve the operational systems, processes, and policies in support of Grand Center’s mission — specifically, support better management reporting, information flow and management, business process, and organizational planning. Finance: Create processes and procedures for the day-to-day accounting functions to ensure all transactions are timely and accurately captured within the accounting software. Monitor accounts receivable and intercede as needed for the collection of balances. Process accounts payable on a timely basis, adhering to all policies and internal controls. Partner with the development team to ensure all of the organization’s fundraising activity is accurately captured within the accounting software. Manage restricted assets through appropriate tracking and reporting of donor-restricted gifts and grants. Monitor cash flow, ensuring the availability of operating funds throughout the year and with respect to the organization’s calendar of activities. Provide thorough monthly financial reports to the President/CEO for review. Generate accurate, understandable, and value-added financial reporting and analysis to allow management, the Committees, and Board to make strategic decisions. Educate staff, Committees, and the Board on the organization’s current financial position and activities at regular meetings. Create the annual organization budget, working with the President/CEO to finalize and present the budget to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for approval. Direct financial activities and expenditures in adherence to the budget. Serve as the liaison with the independent accounting firm during the annual audit process. Develop and Implement the Accounting Policies & Procedures, reviewing periodically to ensure best practices and internal controls are met. Develop and implement the organization’s Investment Policy Statement (IPS), with the advice of the Investment Committee and Executive Committee. Ensure that the IPS is reviewed at least annually and adhered to by Investment Advisors. Operations: Oversee operational activities within our facilities and in relation to district responsibilities. Develop and oversee the electronic file system for internal documents. Manage record retention and storage policies, educating staff accordingly. Oversee supplier and vendor relations. Explore and implement innovative solutions to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of all functions within the organization. Management and Human Resources: Monitor all staff and their activities on a day-to-day basis. Provide oversight on projects and assist with setting priorities and goals. Serve as primary management contact to Grand Center’s professional employer organization (PEO) for payroll, benefits, and HR services. Maintain and periodically review the employee handbook. Qualified candidates should meet the following criteria: Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university. 4-5 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with not-for-profit organizations is preferred. Experience using accounting software (Oracle Netsuite and Quickbooks). Understanding of the St. Louis philanthropic and civic community. Strong leadership and communication skills. Excellent organizational skills.
