Island Movers Job Description POSITION: LOG/GFO Operations Supervisor REPORTS TO: LOG/GFO Office Manager FLSA: Exempt (Non-Union) POSITION SUMMARY: Oversee the daily operations of the Logistics and General Freight departments, manage dispatchers, manage loading dock operations and assist the Office Manager and the General Manager in maximizing Company’s potential and achieving financial goals. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Manage and monitor LOG/GFO staff’s personnel activities and adherence to Company’s policies and procedures, such as attendance, scheduling, corrective actions, and conducting work performance reviews. Monitor, reinforce and ensure compliance of proper workplace and safety practices for drivers, warehouse crew, and staff daily. Investigate accidents, injuries and incidents to determine root cause, gather and document detailed information, and enforce corrective action if applicable. Direct dispatchers on the implementation of safety education for drivers. Schedule training and classes to ensure drivers’ compliance. Formulate quotes for clients by visiting job sites and assessing what types of equipment, permits and outside resources are required to render service. Procure goods and services as needed. Conduct daily site inspections of facilities and grounds. Inspect all equipment to ensure optimal performance and if necessary, schedule repairs with the Company’s Mechanic Shop and/or coordinate replacements for inoperable equipment. Consistently monitor physical inventory by checking incoming and outgoing materials to upkeep inventory control and the financial tracking information system Must have the ability to understand CBP regulations pertaining to the operation of bonded storage facilities and ensure that all personnel are following those regulations. Perform administrative duties, which include, but are not limited to, email correspondence, data entry, and maintaining drivers’ licenses and certifications. Provide back-up support and coverage for direct reports Perform other projects and duties as assigned by the Office Manager and the General Manager. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: · High School diploma/GED and 2 years of freight/transportation experience · Or 5 years of freight/transportation experience Experience/Skills/Knowledge: · Have excellent management, leadership, and delegation skills to direct the use of labor, tools and resources within the CFS/LOG departments. · Have a strong understanding of risk and safety management · Be a team player and be able to motivate and encourage others · Proficient in software applications: · Be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task · Must be able to effectively research and analyze departmental data · Possess strong interpersonal skills in maintaining professional relationships through effective and positive communications with all levels of employees, vendors and clients o Have excellent decision-making skills with quick responsiveness to customers to satisfy their expectations o Ability to persuade and negotiate terms with staff, vendors and clients PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience/Skills/Knowledge: · 5 years of Management/Supervisory experience · Have a general understanding of business practices, strategic planning, budget analysis and/or HR principles MENTAL/PHYSICAL/COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS: Required to complete multiple priorities with time-sensitive deadlines. Work under minimal supervision and high-pressure environments. Be able to apply logic and reasoning to solve complex and analytical problems. Use sound judgment and discretion in performing work duties. Requires long periods of sitting at a desk, speaking with various individuals, and frequent use of computers and other clerical equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Indoors, air-conditioned office and outdoor locations, i.e., warehouse, shipyard, loading dock Travel between Company locations on Oahu and client/vendor locations NORMAL WORK HOURS: Monday – Friday, 6:30a.m. – 5:00p.m. May require working overtime, on the weekends and holidays per direction of PWD General Manager GUIDELINES: Follows and adheres to all internal policies and procedures, House and Safety Rules, and any employee guidelines if applicable.
