Plan, organize and direct the construction, renovation, maintenance and repair of district grounds and athletic fields; formulate and develop assigned unit goals and objectives; manage and inspect work of assigned personnel and direct unit activities; train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel. Direct and coordinate district grounds maintenance functions to ensure economy, safety, effective communications, and proper appearance and condition of buildings, grounds and vehicles. Confers with maintenance, custodial and groundskeeping supervisory personnel regarding methods, procedures, and resources; resolve problems and determine future requirements of personnel and materials; coordinate with school officials on department issues; inspect work in progress for adherence to standards. Oversee tree trimming and tree management program; direct personnel and contractors for trimming, maintenance, inspections, planting and removal. Assist in managing district facilities use, develop facilities use practices, inventory, contracts and communications with local parks, city personnel and civic groups. Develop, plan and oversee pest control activities in line with the district’s integrated pest management plan. Develop and oversee programs for year-round maintenance of grounds, athletic fields, artificial turf and related activities; oversee preventative maintenance for grounds equipment. Direct bid specifications for ground renovation and maintenance; advise administrators on design, construction and alteration of school grounds. Train, supervise and evaluate staff; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignments, terminations and disciplinary actions. Provide technical expertise and assist in policy, procedure and program development for grounds construction and maintenance; prepare and maintain reports and records related to personnel and activities. Communicate with district and site administrators, regulatory agencies, architects, engineers, inspectors, contractors and vendors; coordinate activities and exchange information. Assist in developing and coordinating the annual preliminary budget for the grounds maintenance division; analyze budget data and control expenditures within limits. Operate a computer and office equipment; drive a vehicle to perform work as assigned; attend and conduct meetings and in-service trainings. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by college-level coursework in landscape management, facilities management or related field and five years of recent, progressively responsible grounds maintenance experience, including at least three years in a lead or supervisory capacity. Licenses and Other Requirements:
Valid California driver's license. Examination
Exam Weight: Supplemental Questions (Qualifying), Written Exam 40%, Qualifications Appraisal Interview 60%. Supplemental questions will be reviewed and rated for certification. Eligibility list will be established for open positions during the life of the list. Examinations and interviews may be conducted virtually with video or online platforms. The virtual written exam and the Qualifications Appraisal Interview are tentatively scheduled for the week of November 3rd and November 17th respectively.
