About the Team
The
Brakes and Steering team
is responsible for designing and delivering braking systems and steering systems for client vehicle programs. This small, close-knit team is looking for a
Design and Release Engineer - Brakes
to support multiple brake system components. This role offers exposure to
safety-critical product development , ownership of work, and opportunities to lead design efforts.
Job Responsibilities Support design tasks for
electro-hydraulic brake system components
from concept to production (e.g., brake calipers, rotors, brake lines, hoses, and electrical harnesses). Document requirements for components based on vehicle functions and attributes. Lead technical development activities with suppliers and drive design solutions within time, cost, and technical constraints. Support system and component
DFMEAs
and
DVPs , contributing to failure mode analyses. Perform detailed assessments of bolted connections to meet structural and safety standards. Conduct
structural analysis
for safety-critical components. Resolve virtual build issues through benchmarking and support manufacturing with
poke-yoke (error-proofing) solutions . Utilize
CAD and stack-ups
to verify spatial constraints, clearances, and packaging feasibility. Apply
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
principles to validate part fit, form, and function. Create, track, and drive closure of
Engineering Change Requests (ECRs)
for design updates and improvements. Contribute to
cost-saving initiatives
and
continuous improvement roadmaps
for current and future vehicles. Top Skills Required Chassis and Braking System expertise
- Minimum 5 years Safety-critical automotive mechatronics and hydraulic systems
- Minimum 5 years Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 and 3DX
- Minimum 5 years
Qualifications
5+ years
of automotive industry experience in design and release engineering. Proven experience with
safety-critical components
from concept to production. Strong
3D CAD
and modeling skills. Experience with
engineering change management
and supplier/project management. Knowledge of
requirements management
and
verification planning . Excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills. Education
BS/BEng in Mechanical Engineering
(or equivalent experience). Master's degree preferred but not required.
