Overall Purpose of the Position:
A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a nurse who has graduated from an accredited nursing program and is licensed as an LPN by the State of Hawaii. The LPN uses their training for performing quality nursing services for the care and treatment of patients in the offices.
Responsibilities
Performs general nursing duties, including escorting the patient to the exam room, preparing the patient for the examination, taking and recording vital signs, observing symptoms, eliciting information from the patient, and reporting to the provider during the examination; assists with procedures and/or treatments as directed by the provider. 20%
Prepares patient records before the visit, ensures reports are available, maintains an accurate record of medications, injections, and treatments administered; completes necessary requisitions and makes appointments with other departments or offices as indicated. 20%
Directs and supervises other health care personnel in the clinic, including delegation of duties within scope of practice. 20%
Screens phone calls to the provider to determine if an appointment is indicated; relays instructions or advice from the provider to patients as needed; performs patient teaching and/or nursing checks per provider guidelines. 15%
Assists in other offices when directed by the Director of Nursing or designee; performs other tasks as directed by the provider and/or nurse in charge. 10%
Maintains or oversees sanitary conditions in the office at all times; orders medical and clerical supplies as required. 5%
Other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned. 5%
Demonstrates quality work, completes assignments on time, and makes decisions within limits of authority; adheres to all company policies and procedures. 2.5%
Maintains time and attendance standards consistent with company policy. 2.5%
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience:
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing; Licensure as an LPN in the State of Hawaii required; Active/unexpired CPR/BLS Card required.
Skills/Knowledge:
Ability to manage several tasks at the same time; works overtime as needed; updates education on own as necessary; knows and uses principles of good body mechanics.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrates effective communication and telephone skills; computer literacy preferred.
Equipment Use:
Medical equipment – e.g. nebulizer, pulse oximetry, EKG machine, glucometer, and equipment specific to area/clinic of primary practice.
Characteristics:
Physically fit to perform the duties of the position; willing to participate as a member of the nursing team; possesses effective organizational skills and maintains a “can-do” attitude.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Walking (85%); sitting (15%); lifts up to 25 lbs with occasional heavier loads.
Compensation Hourly Rate:
LPN starting @ $26.06 / MA starting @ $23.72; based on experience.
