Salary Range:
$31.00 To $31.00 Hourly The Lighting Director oversees all aspects of setup, operation, and loadout of the lighting and electrics needs for their assigned events. The role may vary from event to event depending on what equipment and personnel are present, and tour vision and design for the lighting and electrics. The role involves programming various light boards, connecting house lighting to tour, focusing lights, creating lighting designs when needed, and supervising staff hanging and taking down lights and other electrical equipment. Responsibilities
Serve as the primary lighting engineer for assigned events in a live event environment. Act as the point person for all lighting and electrical needs on-site, including house lights, moving lights, tour-specific fixtures, and both house and rented electrics equipment. Oversee the installation, operation, and maintenance of all lighting and electrical systems. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to lighting and electrics equipment or systems. Supervise and manage lighting and electrics crews, providing guidance during setup, rehearsals, and performances as needed. Interpret and execute the Lighting Designer’s vision, operating lighting consoles and special effects equipment as required. Collaborate closely with the tour Lighting Designers, House A1, Event Managers, Technical Directors, and Stage Managers to ensure a seamless live event experience. Occasionally assist external vendors with video production setup and operation. Be a proactive collaborator, taking the lead when necessary, while understanding when to defer leadership to other technical heads. Serve as a general stagehand when needed, including tasks such as assisting with towers, seat wagons, sweeping, mopping, and other event-related duties at Pikes Peak Center and Broadmoor World Arena. Participate in monthly tech head meetings and collaborate with other lighting department leads to address department needs and improvements. Qualifications
Proven L1 experience in live events, particularly in theater events. Ability to adapt to the specific needs of various events and venues. Strong knowledge of lighting consoles (especially the ETC Ion), lighting instruments, power distribution, and safety regulations related to power/lighting. Advanced understanding of the lighting systems and equipment at Pikes Peak Center. Positive, proactive attitude with a can-do approach to challenges. Strong record of punctuality and reliable attendance. Excellent leadership and communication skills. Knowledge of rigging practices and techniques. Education/Experience Requirements
4-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Event Management, Theater Management, Business Management or other related field is preferred A minimum of 5 years’ experience managing lighting for events in a theater or arena is preferred Additional years of experience may be substituted for formal education Experience with technical theater equipment is preferred Physical/Mental Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following: Prolonged standing, walking, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to use hands and arms for fine manipulation, reach, and climb. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, depth perception, ability to focus, and ability to see and discern colors. Ability to read and interpret safety documents, manuals, and other written materials. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence clearly and effectively. Strong verbal communication skills to speak effectively with clients or team members. Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts, including calculations involving angles, weight ratios, portions, and percentages. Capable of solving practical problems and handling unique client-related or staffing challenges. A collaborative mindset and willingness to support others. Ability to effectively task switch, work under pressure, and stay organized in fast-paced environments. Effective communication with both full-time staff, part-time staff, and external teams, including stagehands and tour personnel. Work Environment
Exposure to loud noise levels, particularly during concerts or similar events. Exposure to bright and/or flashing lights and sudden darkness. Wage Range
