Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems has a career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer – X-Lab Software Engineer to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. This position plays a critical role in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels. This position does not offer relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options available. Position Overview
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a crucial part of the Missile Defense System. It provides an essential operational platform that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to systematically plan missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively control networked sensors and weapon systems to meet global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC offers a layered missile defense capability, delivering an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications Experimentation Laboratory (C2BMC X-Lab) offers a fast-paced and dynamic environment, developing and integrating future-capability prototypes for the Missile Defense System. Essential Functions
Will work full-time, on-site at the Missile Defense Integration and Operations Center (MDIOC) on Schriever Space Force Base, CO, and is not a remote position. Will have a good understanding of Agile software development processes and principles, and be able to communicate the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and system users. Will be comfortable with rapidly changing requirements, design challenges that require novel solutions in fast-paced activities, and tight deadlines. Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of experience, or a PhD and 1 year of experience, or 9 years of related experience in lieu of a degree may be considered. Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start with the ability to obtain TS/SCI security clearance. Applicants must have a current active DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher. Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% to support business needs. Experience with Java and Spring Framework. Experience working in a Linux environment. Experience with software testing and analysis tools. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications
A current, active in-scope DoD-issued Top Secret security clearance with eligibility to be cleared at SCI is highly preferred. Developing and integrating future-capability prototypes for the Missile Defense System, including Sensor/Weapon Integration, Algorithm Development, User interface development, and other critical advanced missile defense technologies. Demonstrable skills in full-cycle software engineering of new capabilities, basic Systems Engineering knowledge, software development using Java, object-oriented development principles, and pattern testing.
