VTA is seeking an experienced Senior Land Surveyor to supervise and coordinate the activities of field and office surveying functions. Work with regional and member agencies as well as elected officials and the public to improve transit services and roadway congestion and encourage multimodality.
A senior-level opportunity in the Engineering and Program Delivery Division responsible for conducting professional surveying services on transit, highway and multimodal projects. You will work on various infrastructure projects and programs as the liaison between various departments within the division and with other divisions within the agency.

Under general supervision, the Senior Land Surveyor supervises and coordinates the activities of field and office surveying functions and assists the Survey and Mapping Manager with supervisory and administrative functions of the Survey Services Unit. Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a single position classification responsible for assisting the Survey and Mapping Manager in supervising the efforts of subordinate personnel including surveyors, engineering technicians, and consultants. Typical Tasks
Selects, supervises, trains, motivates, assigns, evaluates, counsels and disciplines subordinate personnel; Supervises office and field survey activities; Advises survey staff regarding methods and techniques of surveying; Provides direction to the Survey Department's Record Drawing Group as needed; Coordinates surveying activities with real estate agents, engineers, inspectors, contractors, etc.; Attends pre-construction meetings or assigns survey staff to attend and keeps informed on projects and related activities; May recommend design changes to conform with field conditions; May administer consultant contracts; Supervises personnel performing office and/or field work required for preparation of Record of Survey Maps, Parcel Maps, Corner Records, legal descriptions, and construction layout plans for VTA projects; Serves as Responsible Charge as described in the Professional Engineers' and Land Surveyors' Act including stamping, signing, and certifying the correctness of documents; Interprets legal descriptions of real property; Uses AutoCAD, Softdesk, and other computer aided design software in the development of maps and calculations; Interacts with various public and private organizations; Prepares clear and comprehensive reports and technical correspondences; Performs technical surveying work as required including GPS surveying, running level loops, and producing maps and legal descriptions; Performs related work as required. Sufficient training, education, and experience to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Knowledge of:
All phases of land surveying and map preparation, including GPS and GIS; Laws and regulations pertaining to land surveying in the State of California, including the State Professional Engineers' and Land Surveyors' Act, Subdivision Map Act, and County ordinances; Principles and methods of supervision, training, motivation, counseling and discipline; Project management methods and techniques; Engineering principles, practices, and mathematics. Ability to:
Plan, organize, direct and supervise the work of subordinates; Gather, compile and analyze engineering data and prepare technical engineering reports; Interpret and apply the provisions of the Land Surveyors' Act, Subdivision Map Act, and County ordinances pertaining to land; Research land titles and determine ownership of property; Interpret and evaluate legal descriptions of real property; Analyze situations and determine appropriate courses of action; Act independently under a minimum of direction; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; Use AutoCAD or Softdesk and other software applications to produce maps, records, and engineering reports; Communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
