We’re looking for a
Senior Electrical Design Engineer
to lead technical design and analysis for complex electrical power systems, with a strong focus on Arc Flash Analysis. This role blends field and office work, and provides expert support in power system protection, relay design, system modeling, and commissioning activities across a variety of industrial environments. What You’ll Do: Perform system studies including short-circuit, coordination, and arc flash hazard analysis Conduct Power Quality Analysis identifying power quality issues, troubleshooting, and mentoring new engineers Design and analyze electrical power systems and equipment for new installations, upgrades, and retrofits Develop specifications for substations, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, and circuit breakers Create electrical drawing packages and control schematics for protective relaying and substation equipment Develop relay settings for electromechanical and microprocessor relays Support project execution by coordinating with field teams, reviewing installations, and participating in commissioning Evaluate power quality and event data to identify root causes and recommend solutions Travel to customer sites as needed to gather design data, meet with clients, or support installation phases Collaborate with field services to ensure technical excellence and project efficiency Follow safety standards when working around energized equipment The Experience We’re Looking For: 5-10 years of experience in electrical engineering or related roles with demonstrated design and field experience Skilled in power system modeling and relay design using tools like SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, and AutoCAD Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for documentation and reporting Knowledgeable in power system protection, substation design, and wiring methods Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder engagement Self-starter who works well independently with minimal supervision Additional Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent practical experience Valid and current driver’s license with a clean driving record Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests Willing and able to travel frequently (15–20%), including overnight stays Must be flexible to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights as needed Ability to work remotely and stay self-directed in day-to-day responsibilities Bonus Points for: Experience performing field commissioning and troubleshooting NETA Level 2–4, EIT/FE, or PE license preferred Strong ability to interface between engineering and field service teams Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) or in active pursuit Experience working near energized electrical systems and following proper safety protocol Why Join RMS Energy: We’re not just another power services company.
