WSP is seeking a seasoned Senior Structural Aviation Engineer to lead and support the design, and construction of aviation facilities and infrastructure across the U.S. This role blends deep structural engineering expertise with aviation sector experience, offering a unique opportunity to shape the future of airport development.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical foundation, proven leadership in complex aviation projects, and a passion for mentoring and innovation. Responsibilities include the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements, such as terminals, concourses, hangars, and select aviation facilities.

Serve as Technical lead on aviation terminal, concourse, and hangar projects. Lead structural design and coordination from concept through construction, ensuring safety, durability, and compliance. Apply high-level structural engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various aviation project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, airport authorities, and stakeholders to deliver future-ready solutions. Apply advanced structural engineering techniques to airside and landside infrastructure, including mass timber, seismic design, and sustainable systems. Oversee development of construction documents, specifications, cost estimates, and phasing plans. Conduct observations and investigations of existing and proposed facilities to ensure conformance with codes and standards Guide implementation of innovative technologies, modeling techniques, and materials. Meet with various public or private entities or individuals to discuss issues relating to a variety of engineering/construction challenges and programs. Support business development efforts and client engagement in the aviation sector. Mentor junior staff and contribute to team growth and technical excellence. Ensure technical reports and presentations explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or opportunities. Remain current in latest structural engineering techniques and practices. Collaborates with professionals from a variety of disciplines, other engineers, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities. Stay current with FAA advisory circulars, procedures, and design software (e.g., FAARFIELD, COMFAA). Who You Are
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred). PE license (multi-state preferred). 10+ years of experience in structural engineering with significant aviation project involvement. Demonstrated experience with terminal renovations, concourse expansions, and hangar design. Proficiency in Revit, and structural analysis software (e.g., RAM, ETABS, RISA). Strong understanding of FAA standards and airport design principles. Highly proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations. Excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills. Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of aviation buildings, facilities, or structures, and applying applicable regulations and governing codes. Proven ability to manage scope, budget, and schedule across complex projects. Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC. Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization. Moderate travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Engineering. Experience with mass timber, seismic zones, and sustainable design. Familiarity with DEN, PHX, LAS, or other large hub airport projects. OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification. CPR/First Aid training.
