Job Summary
Provide guidance for the execution and maintenance of the corrosion control program to ensure compliance with regulations and company procedures. Provide technical leadership, training, and support to field personnel responsible for maintenance of tools and equipment, including ground beds, rectifiers, test equipment, corrosion coupon installations, etc.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Oversee each reporting location’s corrosion control activities including cathodic protection design, record keeping, and corrosion control maintenance. Implement corrosion control programs. Troubleshoot and correct complex cathodic protection deficiencies, and stray current interference problems.
Provide technical guidance in developing corrosion and/or pipeline integrity project planning and budgeting.
Plan, coordinate material requisitions, contractor selection, documentation, and management of new projects and work orders.
Provide field project management of pipeline integrity projects, including: smart pig runs, assessment digs, pipe re-coating, corrosion surveys, and groundbed rectifier systems.
Ensure installations and/or pipeline integrity projects are in compliance with Pipeline Safety Regulations, NACE Standards, and Company procedures and standards.
Provide corrosion control training to operation supervisors and field personnel, including mentoring and/or verifying the qualifications of personnel to perform OQ covered tasks.
Conduct facility inspections, review records and reports findings to appropriate management and departments.
Ensure corrosion and pipeline integrity records are kept and maintained according to DOT requirements, Company standards, and department guidelines.
Prepare special reports that document and/or make recommendations regarding the results of pipeline integrity assessment activities, special projects, or surveys.
Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department, the company, and internal customers. Maintain professional competence and skills; enhance job knowledge through personal development and training.
Maintain sensitive and confidential information regarding company information.
Responsibilities may include Department of Transportation (DOT) covered functions, including operations, maintenance, or emergency response on a pipeline. Employee must be alert and respond immediately to dangerous or hazardous conditions, and where impaired performance, or failure to follow safety precautions, could result in serious injury or property damage.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, other related field, or an equivalent combination of formal education and job-related experience
Work Experience
8 years experience with and knowledge of corrosion control, gas pipeline construction and maintenance
Experience with corrosion control functions. Demonstrated ability to plan and design cathodic protection systems
Experience in use and function of tools and equipment applicable to position, including strong background in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access databases, RSTRENG, and other computer applications
Experience and/or training related to: evaluation and recommendation of corrosion control materials, equipment and procedures; company and governmental standards and regulations; analytical/problem solving skills; resolve system deficiencies; interpersonal/communications skills
Experience reading and interpreting pipeline safety regulations, company operating procedures, engineering standards/constructions standards, corrosion engineering publications, accounting manuals and company procedures
Experience compiling and/or preparing various corrosion reports, pipeline safety regulations, analysis of company standards and practices, publications, manuals, company procedures, training materials, test results and findings
Experience interacting, directing, and communicating effectively
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to apply math and algebraic formulas
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently; project management experience
Ability to conduct corrosion control training on cathodic protections design, record keeping, and corrosion control maintenance
Ability to communicate and/or exchange written and verbal information and instructions
Licenses and Certifications
NACE Cathodic Protection/Corrosion Certification - minimum of Technologist level required
Strength and Physical Demands
Sedentary work with occasional lifting up to 10 pounds; description of physical demands follows standard corporate practice for this role.
