The successful applicant will spend the majority of their jobplanned time working within the Intensive Care Unit. We currently work fixed half week blocks; Monday TuesdayWednesday, or Wednesday, Thursday Friday, on a rolling 4 week cycle. In addition to this will be an on callcommitment. Main duties of the job
The standard day will consist of a multi disciplinary wardround, followed by clinical work, teaching and administrative duties asdictated by the clinical tempo. We have standard Respiratory and CardioVascular support andRenal support via CVVH/D. We are keenadvocates of Trans Thoracic Ultrasound. Time may also be spent within an allied speciality forexample Anaesthesia or Emergency Medicine, or working within the regionaltransfer service. About us

Thispost is for a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine. The successful applicant will be based at the University Hospital of NorthDurham. This post will have a regular commitment to Intensive Care Medicine butwill also be able to accommodate additional specialities such as Anaesthesia,Emergency Medicine and other allied specialities. The Department wouldactively support the development of any specialist areas identified by thesuccessful candidate. Person Specification

Clinical skills appropriate for a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine Ability to train at the bedside and in classroom settings Experience of supervising trainees Ability to organise and prioritise own work. Ability to delegate appropriately to trainee / non-consultant career grade anaesthetists An understanding of the importance of research A recognised qualification in post-graduate teaching Feedback from delivered teaching demonstrating high quality delivery Formal training in management and demonstrable administrative skills Evidence of completion of management projects Special Requirements

Full registration with GMC Specialist Registration with the GMC in Intensive Care Medicine Applicants should have attained or be within 6 months of CCT date Evidence of adherence to appraisal and GMC revalidation processes Applicants are required to be fully registered with a licence to practise with the GMC and either on, or within 6 months of entry onto the Specialist Register on the date of interview If applying for Full GMC Registration & Licence to Practice simultaneously with a CESR application, supporting documentary evidence must be provided at interview, to confirm an application has been submitted & is under consideration by the GMC Specialist registration with the GMC in ICM Qualifications
MBBS, MBChB or equivalent Specialist registration with the GMCD in Intensive are Medicine ALS, ATLS, APLS/EPLS or other complimentary qualification Possession of postgraduate qualification of Intensive Care Medicine e.g. FFICM Experience
Experience in providing anaesthetic for the specialities provided by the Trust Experience in Intensive Care Medicine Experience of a significant audit project and a good knowledge of the principles of clinical governance Experience of ICNARC and ITU databases and scoring systems. Evidence demonstrating commitment to clinical audit with implmented outcomes benefiting patients. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
