Duties Description The Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is recruiting applicants for the 2026 Attorney General Fellowship Program. The following are some program highlights:

This is a two-year program for six law school graduates.

Placements begin in September 2026 and conclude in August 2028.

Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in working as a public service attorney.

Fellows work as junior attorneys and receive training and mentorship.

Fellows work to protect the rights and interests of the state and people of New York.

Fellows gain hands-on legal experience by working on investigations, affirmative and defensive litigation, public education, and community outreach projects.

For 2026, one placement is offered in each of the following bureaus in New York City:

Executive Division

Litigation Bureau

Protect Our Homes Initiative (POHI)

Placements in Other Locations include:

Rochester Regional Office (RO)

Sex Offender Management Bureau (SOMB)

Suffolk Regional Office (RO) – Hauppauge, NY

The AG Fellowship Team reserves the right to make placement assignments based on the needs of OAG, and placement takes into account Fellows’ location preferences. Fellows receive a salary and benefits:

Annual salary is $83,594 plus location pay where applicable (New York City and Suffolk: $4,000).

Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance; retirement programs; workplace flexibility programs and other family-friendly policies.

A two-year commitment is a condition of employment.

Minimum Qualifications The OAG is an equal opportunity employer and seeks a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workforce.

Law students graduating from their JD program during the academic year 2025-26.

Admission to the New York State Bar within the Fellow’s first year is a condition of continued employment. Fellows must be registered to complete: UBE (February 2026 or July 2026); MPRE (March 2026 or August 2026); NYLE (must complete NYLC 30 days before the next NYLE); take the NYLE in 2025 or by September 2026 at the latest.

The OAG does not provide funding to cover bar preparation costs or test fees.

We are seeking a diverse pool of applicants who demonstrate strong legal writing, analytical, and organizational skills, a commitment to public service and social, economic, and criminal justice, and, ideally, language fluency.
