Assistant Vice President of Enrollment & Director of Admissions
Santa Fe, NM, US Requisition ID: 1128 Salary Range: $85,000.00 To $105,000.00 Annually Reports To: Vice President of Enrollment DUTIES : The Assistant Vice President of Enrollment and Director of Admissions, Santa Fe, promotes St. John’s College, our two campuses in Annapolis, Maryland, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, and our distinctive great books curriculum among prospective undergraduate and graduate students. The ultimate goal of the admissions and financial aid team, including the Assistant Vice President, is to encourage an increasing number of intellectually curious and talented prospective students, from varied backgrounds, to apply and enroll at St. John’s. The Assistant Vice President is a senior leader who will work closely with the Vice President of Enrollment to develop and implement a successful admissions and financial strategy for the college as a whole. The role includes oversight of freshman and transfer recruitment on both campuses, selection of Santa Fe students, and yield on both campuses, as well as graduate recruitment and yield on both campuses. The Assistant Vice President will also have significant autonomy in the management of the admissions staff based on the Santa Fe campus. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: With the Vice President of Enrollment, strategize, develop, and implement marketing, communications, and recruitment materials for prospective students, including managing print communications. Oversee the work of all staff serving as territory managers, coordinate with the Director of International Recruitment to assign territory management tasks, and oversee staff training. Oversee the work of staff managing Summer Academy admissions, marketing, and communications. Oversee the onboarding process for deposited students. Travel on behalf of the college to recruit students and raise the college’s visibility. Assist in setting financial aid strategy with the Vice President of Enrollment and Directors of Financial Aid. Assist in setting Graduate Institute recruitment strategy with the Vice President of Enrollment, Associate Deans for Graduate Programs, and Associate Directors of Graduate Admissions, supervising graduate admissions staff. Work collaboratively with the Admissions Operations team and develop knowledge of essential systems as a backup to Admissions Operations. Maintain a special focus on ensuring Santa Fe meets enrollment goals, ensure recruitment strategies serve the Santa Fe campus, and advocate for Santa Fe priorities in all aspects of the admissions process. Hire, train, motivate, and manage the admissions staff in Santa Fe. Directly supervise Associate Directors of Admissions. Oversee day-to-day operations within the Santa Fe office and coordinate operations with the Annapolis office. Oversee staff responsible for the Santa Fe visit program. Chair the Santa Fe admissions committee and, with the Dean of the College, make final decisions on admissions files. Oversee the work of staff managing the Southwest Scholars partnership program. Serve as a member of the Santa Fe financial aid committee. Represent the collegewide Admissions and Financial Aid offices and the Vice President of Enrollment, especially on the Santa Fe campus. Be an articulate, fluent, and passionate advocate for the strengths of a liberal arts education at St. John’s College, including the curriculum, classroom experience, unique attributes of each campus, extracurricular life, residential life, and future career success. Be conversant on federal and institutional financial aid policies and procedures. Foster a welcoming environment for all prospective students, staff, and the campus community that encourages diversity and inclusion. Collaborate and coordinate with admissions, financial aid, communications, and other colleagues in Annapolis and Santa Fe. Perform administrative core functions to document work and maintain records in a timely manner. Meet deadlines and goals as set by the Presidents, Deans of the College, and Vice President of Enrollment. Other duties as assigned. PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS: Collaborate with enrollment team members and the Communications Office on both campuses. Build positive relationships with faculty, staff, alumni, and students involved in the admissions process. Meet enrollment goals as determined by the Vice President of Enrollment. Meet regularly with College leadership and Directors of Financial Aid. Stay aware of admissions and market trends and use data to inform decision making. Develop a deep understanding and appreciation for the college’s mission. Collaborate with others in the college to contribute to the college community. Use data to inform all decision making. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: 8+ years of progressive experience in college admissions or a related field. Bachelor’s degree required. An advanced degree preferred. Strong leadership and supervisory abilities; ability to influence and motivate others. Comfort analyzing and using data, ideally with experience using Slate or another CRM. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills. Deep understanding and appreciation for St. John’s mission. High energy, work ethic, and collaborative instincts. Appreciation for people of varied backgrounds in the workplace, community, and applicant pool. Imagination and creativity that can drive innovative approaches to admissions.
