Job Posting: Street Maintenance Operator
The City of Nogales is seeking a full-time Street Maintenance Operator to operate various vehicles and equipment for the maintenance and repair of the city's streets, water and sewer lines, recreation and parks projects, and other public works activities.
Salary: $34,853.08 Annually. Location: Nogales, AZ.

- Operates a variety of light and heavy vehicles and equipment in the maintenance and repair of street, water and sewer lines, recreation and parks projects, hauling and unloading of equipment, materials and supplies, and other public works activities
- Operates street sweeper, power rollers, garbage trucks, and other large heavy vehicles
- Operates construction or power equipment, including backhoes, front-end loaders and hydraulic excavators
- Operates a dump truck as required in municipal construction projects, may be required to participate in other maintenance and repair tasks when not operating vehicles
- Works with and assists line crews with digging ditches and trenches; hoisting material, tools and equipment; and other related activities
- Performs general maintenance of vehicles and equipment
- Ensures safety rules and regulations are followed
- Operates compactors, concrete mixers, pneumatic hammers and air compressors
- Operates street sweeper, power rollers, garbage trucks, dump trucks, backhoe, paving machines, trenchers, front end loaders in the excavation and backfilling of trenches and other needed heavy equipment and vehicles
- Performs cleaning and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant
- Washes and vacuums sewer lines
- Works with and assists line crews with digging ditches and trenches; hoisting material, tools and equipment; and other related activities with a backhoe or front-end loader
- Installs, operates, repairs and maintains drainage lines and man holes; performs man hole fumigation
- Works with and assists water crews with the repair and maintenance of water mains, valves, services, meters, fire hydrants and other water supply
- Responds to emergency calls regarding water quality, pressure and leaks
- Performs general maintenance of vehicles and equipment
- Documents and communicates any discrepancies or concerns to supervisor(s)
- Sets up traffic control
- Supports the relationship between the City of Nogales and the general public
- Maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information
- Performs other duties as required or assigned
Knowledge of:
- City policies and procedures
- Construction, maintenance and repair practices and methods
- Operations of motorized construction and maintenance equipment and vehicles
- Safety practices and procedures
Skill in:
- Using initiative, discretion and judgment within established procedures guidelines and rules
- Recordkeeping
- Using power and hand tools and equipment
- Operating various motorized vehicles and equipment
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with managers, supervisors, employees and the general public
- Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing
Minimum qualifications:
- Education, Training and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent
- One (1) year of heavy equipment and large vehicle operation OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in Heavy Equipment including backhoes, bob-tails, front-end loaders, and hydraulic excavators
- Spanish language fluency
License and certification requirements:
- Arizona State Class B Commercial driver's license
Physical demands and working environment: Work is performed in an outdoor work environment. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals and infectious diseases. May be required to climb ladders. May be required to work in trenches. Reasonable accommodations will be made as required.
